Great club!

What a great club. Course is one of the most prestigious in the country, and the food and hospitality to match. Nothing to fault.

This club has a great reputation so I was interested to form my own opinion. The course is exceptional. Intimidating drives to narrow fairways indicate what a tough challenge you face. If you can avoid the bunkers the greens still present a test. You will find out what level of golfer you really are! Relief can be found in the... More

I've been here a few times as a guest of a member. The selection of food is pretty varied. There is a good selection of real ales as well as the usual drinks at the bar. Nice pot of coffee is served. Will definitely be going again. They serve a good all day breakfast.

S&A as it's known has a long and distinguished history as testified by the photos in the clubhouse. A pretty course, playing over prime links land, relatively level, with plenty of gorse & heather and wildlife (saw pheasants, a fox & several birds of prey) A tough interesting course, the routing is a little unusual but the quality is in... Could be overlooked with Open Championship Courses as well as others so close. The opening par 3 may not be for everyone but, absent significant wind, provides relatively easy access to the rest of the course. This is a very attractive course which varies between shorter shot challenges to holes requiring significant length. The Clubhouse is quite welcoming both by... More

S & A is a wonderful course with a wide variety of holes, memorable landmarks and topography. It is tough but fair and less penal than many in the area. The course is well conditioned. The clubhouse is very nice with a great view of the course from the bar. this is a must play course in the area

Lovely course; well maintained; former Ryder Cup venue with many historic photos; the staff was very welcoming and the bar was a great place to stop after the round!

Played Southport & Ainsdale with two friends on Monday 27th July 2015. Excellent Links course which requires you to be on top of your game. Great layout with some very interesting holes. Well manicured, only negative on the day was that there were lots of worm casts on the greens which spoilt putting. Greens had either not been cut that... More

Classic links golf - challenging and always interesting. Food in the bar was cheap and very good. Pumpkin soup, steak and ale pie and a black pudding salad with poached egg all delicious.
