Been a few times for lunch. The main bar area has just been repainted and is very comfortable. Coffee worst I have ever had. Not sure why. Food average and does not live up to golf club.

Played a 2 ball on a glorious afternoon after driving up from a very wet London . Good to say hello to members with genuine smiles on their faces and you know why when you take on this course . Front nine builds nicely with some challenging but very playable holes which hopefully gets you ready for a back nine... More

One of 3 top links courses on a single stretch of quality links land, a foot path separates it from the most famous neighbour, Royal Birkdale, while on the other side, across the train line is Southport & Ainsdale (S&A). Welcome from members, pro, buggy master & secretary were all enthusiastic and honest. The facilities were as to be expected,... More

This is a "Must not miss" course, I love the welcome from it's members who are not above them selves, as you may expect from such a prestigious course. For my money this course is better than its neighbour Royal Birkdale in many ways.

In between Royal Birkdale GC and Southport & Ainsdale GC is Hillside GC. Perhaps not as well known but certainly the equal to all these great courses. Hosted the final round qualifier several times when the Open is hosted by Royal Birkdale. While not readily apparent from the Clubhouse and 1st tee, there are significant sand dunes to be worked... A former colleague and I had been highly recommended to play Hillside and finally agreed on a date early in October. From my initial enquiry to having to say our goodbyes the service we received was welcoming, professional and friendly. Even after hitting traffic en route to the course which meant arriving over 30 mins late it was no problem... More

I played here a couple of weeks ago with friends and what a course this is. It is common for people to talk about the back 9 but they do the front 9 an injustice. Course was in excellent condition and the terrain was made for golf. This course is as good as anything you will play anywhere. It was... More

Great day of golf had by all at Hillside, and the facilities and golf course impressed us all. Best of all, the back nine at Hillside is as good of a 9 hole stretch as you can find anywhere in the world of links golf!

Really lovely course, some great holes, some of which have almost a Turnberry-like feel. Great staff and the members were both welcoming and very friendly. Definitely a cut above formby. Only reason not 5* was the cost which was high (over £100/round) but all the courses on this coast are overpriced imo. It's worth playing - we played it twice... More
