We were staying with a friend locally and popped out for a stroll around this park to work off breakfast a bit.

Thought it had a lot of character- with the winding paths, the lake, the rose garden and the observatory. It was great to catch the end of parkrun too and see lots of people enjoying the park on an October morning.

Brilliant day out, it’s like a maze though so maybe some directions here and there would be great! Will definitely come back and enjoy an ice cream here whilst watching the kids play on the park!

This is a well laid out and varied large park. In its centre is a lake and there are many paths and walkways through. Take the circular path around the edge to come across such areas as The Rose Garden and the Sensory Garden.

There's a children's play area, crazy golf and a cafe too - even an observatory but that was closed when we were there. Some areas have seen better days - it must have looked good in its heyday. There are now volunteers looking after parts of it.

It's worth a trip out from the town to see it. We caught the bus there and then walked back, it's not far from the end of Lord Street.

Only a 20-25 minute walk up from the shops on Lord Street and you're in a different town. Visit on a Saturday was full of locals with children especially enjoying the enormous playground.

The park offers plenty of walks and has a lovely pond in the middle to watch the world go by. Cafe, cash only, also available.

Toilets at the northern edge of the park are 40p entry.

I live close to this park but rarely visit but it’s lockdown and I find streets boring so visited the park for a change. It’s quite a large park with a big lake as it’s centrepiece. There are lots of areas to discover including a beautiful glass house, observatory, rose garden, disabled garden, cafe and of course a children’s play area. It was quite busy with dog walkers and it was a refreshing change to reacquaint myself with it. It’s not a must see but it is a nice park

Classic well established Victorian public park.
Perfect for grandparents, toddlers and all the family.
The highlights are the boating lake, the palm house, the children's play area with crazy golf.
The only negative is the usual self righteous hoard of dog owners who either allow their hounds to defecate all over or pretend to clean it up only to hang the black bags on the bushes or chuck it in the lake to choke the swans. Vile!

The park looks great, and should be a lovely, peaceful place. My first impressions were certainly positive, and, having entered from Albert Road, my plan was to sit by the pond for a while before exploring the rest of the park. I made my way down the steps to the benches by the water, and saw many ducks on the water, and a number of them sleeping at the side of the pond. Amidst the stillness of the sleeping ducks, however was a very large, marauding rat. Suffice to say I didn't sit waterside, after all. I have since learned that there have been many rat sightings in the park. Of course they have to live somewhere, but it would be great if it was possible to get them away from the park. Surely pest control people would know how?

Beautiful park but unfortunately marred by dog haters. When will some people realise that dogs for many people are an integral part of their being. I don't like out of control children but I don't go around public areas saying that they should be kept close and under control. Dogs need to stretch their legs and not be held tight at the end of a lead.
Looking forward to going again but preferably when selfish others with their irrational phobias are not around
