Opposite the zoo the beach is golden sand and there is a lot of it when the tide is out, but all but disappears at high tide. When it's hot it can get quite crowded near the road along to the end of the sea wall, and the sea, though by no means crowded, is shared with the occasional board, jet ski and boat. (Jet skis may launch from the beach but generally stay far out.) Walk further along the beach and the body count reduces with people spaced further apart. The cliff face, beyond the sea wall, suffers from erosion and, looking up, you can see an overhanging wall where the cliff no longer supports it and the results of the most recent fall at the cliff base. That said, there is plenty of beach away from the cliff face that is beautiful and safe. The easterly end of the beach by the white cliffs (about a 20 minute walk) is naturist, almost deserted, mainly pebbles at the top and mixed with bands of sand nearer the sea. Don't forget your sun block!

The section nearest the car park is your standard British beach. Lots of families enjoying the water and easy access to services. If you enjoy longer distance swimming, the bay is a good mile from the car park to the far cliffs.

Halfway along it gets interesting, not least because the beach is neatly cut off at high tide. For about an hour either side, you cannot easily walk along, although it is still passable if you don't mind clambering over rocks. Interestingly, there are also two gulley paths down from the cliffs overhead. The ease of access from these will depend on how much it has rained recently. So the bottom line is check your tide times before you arrive.

The far end of the beach is an established naturist zone although you are not likely to see as many naked bodies as on some of the more popular nude beaches on the mainland. A lot of people walk their dogs from one end of the beach to the other, without this being an issue to either party.

Lovley to swim when tide is out, warm enough to swim comfortably without wetsuits. Great to see different activities and cute doggos. Short walk from Sandown Bay holiday centre. However small ish and lack of amenities nearby, main road is nearby.

Beautiful beach and a lovely little cafe that does the most amazing food. Give the toilets a massive swerve you dont need a Corona mask you need a tetanus jab and a haz mat suit to go in there. Lots of water sports going on around us which can feel a little unsafe so I think a regular lifeguard would be a good idea.

Nice beach close to Dinosaur Isle. Small shop there although they don’t take cards. Cash only! So that was very disappointing. Crazy golf nearby too. Also the Isle of Wight zoo is close to the beach. Plenty to do there. A nice cafe is also within walking distance at Sandown - the Bandstand.

These days dogs are not welcome on most beaches. This beach, however, welcomes dogs. There is a mile of shoreline with rock pools that dog walkers will love.

Facilities are available in the nearby car park for disposal of dog waste.
