We love Amazon World. If you pay full price you can return for free within 7 days (remember your ID). It’s a lovely zoo with an interesting mix of birds, mammals and reptiles.
The staff are friendly and welcoming and if you catch a keeper they will happily give some background information about the animals.
We did an animal encounter with the Tapirs and it was worth every Penny. We were allowed to groom them (which they very much loved) and feed them fruity and veggie snacks. This was an extra cost.
We were also lucky enough to feed the wallabies (£1 for a handful of food) and the fish.
The lemur walk is super and gives a chance to see them up close.
Our fav bit is the nocturnal area and especially the Pygmy slow loris who had tiny babies around 5 weeks before.
There is a cafe on site and a huge soft play that is included in the ticket price (2 hours given!).
Can’t wait to visit again.

Good selection of animals. Lemur walk through was entertaining and would recommend doing it.
Definitely on the smaller side, some of the zoo is definitely in need of some TLC and there was some work going on whilst we were there so assume it’s slowly being sorted. Our 3 year old daughter loved looking at all the animals. Cafe on site was ok and not too bad value for money. The soft play for the kids is massive and definitely worth going in to keep the little ones entertained. We made use of the 7 day free return for this alone as our daughter loved it. We used our Tesco vouchers on our visit which made it worth while in our case. We were nervous after reading previous reviews, but we would recommend visiting if you have young kids. The lady in the soft play cafe was very polite and everything was very clean! There is also a small gift shop at the end which is well stocked with great items for all ages. I think if we paid full price for entry we would have been a little disappointed as it’s not cheap… Clubcard vouchers are definitely worth using.

This was a great find! Entry is expensive for a family of 4 however we used our Tesco Clubcard vouchers. We were offered a free 7 day return too which was a bonus.
We visited on bank holiday Monday and were worried it would be really busy but it wasn’t at all. My children ages 6 and 3 loved the indoor soft play, especially as it wasn’t very busy.
The zoo itself is fantastic, the tropical zone was really interesting and my children really enjoyed exploring this area, especially when we found the sloths. Lots of interesting animals to see that you wouldn’t necessarily find in other zoos. Lots of areas to picnic, and the cafe was responsibly priced too. Great outdoor play area and Dino dig too.
Overall we spent about 4 hours here so a great morning/ afternoon out.

So after visiting we were firstly disappointed by the costs
Mislead by the lack of "zoo" animals, it was more like small animals from the Amazon jungle, and we got round the whole place in 15 mins.
I was saddened to see many animals in small confined cages, especially the flamingos, a poor Ocelot was that stressed pacing back and forth in its pen :-(
As a someone that works in the animal profession it felt like conservation was their main aim rather than the welfare of the animals and their environment/ enrichment and space
The place seemed a little run down and many unkept enclosures, overgrown trees/plants, especially in the tropical house, which we expected but not to the point of it blocking our head height! on this note were also going to make a separate complaint that they need numerous hazard signs for taller people. Approximately 3 times my husband hit his head trying to duck and dive through pathways and door ways where there was no low height hazard warning tape. Eventually we stopped for lunch in the café !! never again it was awful food.
The children seemed to like the soft play as the park was full of bird mess and looked like it had never been cleaned. So all in all almost £70 later with entry and a bit of food, we very much doubt we would even recommend a visit here unless it improved considerably.

This ‘zoo’ is dated a worn out. A smallish selection of animals, based rather obviously around the Amazon. The animals sadly are in very small enclosures with little enrichment, they’re overgrown and run down. The cages are dirty and full of weeds, parts of the park held down by bent chicken wire instead of being properly maintained.
The whole zoo was grubby, cafe and outdoor seating was dirty. The worst part was the wait for lunch - the cafe was only half full but we were told it was a 50 minute wait for some sandwiches and kids meals. After an hour still no sign of food - chased again 10 mins later to be told it had just been put in the oven. I felt sorry for the staff, they were all youngsters working hard but they simply need more staff and better training to speed the service up. Cafe toilets were filthy. Soft play is open despite the website and voicemail saying it’s not.
Tesco vouchers can’t be used on a family ticket, only individual tickets so be aware of this when using them.
I won’t be going again.

Very difficult place to locate, needs more signage as is hidden by a big garden centre. There are no discretions for disabled people so they pay full whack but are limited in what they can see. The place definitely seems run down and to be honest not worth the money. The lady booking us in was not friendly but the girls looking after some of the animals 'Kay and Fifi' seemed very knowledgeable and were the highlight of the visit. The museum is worth seeing but otherwise suggest you save your money and visit Sandown Zoo.

Average zoo, but definitely not worth the money. The smaller kids enjoyed it, but when they like the play park and play and with dinosaur bones more than the animals, it's an expensive day out. The animals are well looked after, but some of the enclosures seemed a bit small, especially the flamingos and ocelot. Friendly staff. I know the money goes towards the upkeep of the zoo but I think they need to seriously review the prices. £50 for 4 people and only an hour spent there with hardly any animals, would have happily paid half price instead. Wont be returning..o

Queue to get in was very long. Only one person doing entry tickets so taking forever. Asked for islander tickets and was asked for ID. Explained last time we visited we asked for the islander cards and were told we didn't need them so didn't have them. All bar one of our party had ID. The lady behind the till insisted we needed photo ID which then changed to anything with proof of address on which didn't make any sense as anyone could turn up with a letter with an island address on!! Less and less animals over the years so refused to pay the full price as would never have visited in the first place if would have had to have paid the full cost as its just not justifiable anymore. Used to visit regularly. Sadly the whole place now seems dated and needs an upgrade and has been slowly going downhill over time. I'm afraid that now it for us. We won't be visiting anymore and shall use our money to support other island businesses.

Nice little zoo with the added benefit of a soft play area for the kids. A little pricey for the size of the attraction and you had to pay for a 2 year old but if you make use of the free 7 day return it is good value. We used the 7 day return to come back on a rainy day and make use of the soft play. You can also use tesco clubcard vouchers!

As islanders - well, people who live here - we’ve been coming here off and on for years. We had stopped for a while, partly due to our daughter growing up and partly because some of the living conditions for the animals are small or quite poor and dirty looking. I can appreciate some of the more docile animals may need less room but honestly, one struggles to see how they have any quality of life. I was pleased to see the ocelots appear to have gone, hopefully. Theirs was one of the worst. That’s not to say there haven’t been improvements because there have, for a few. The water looks a lot cleaner now for instance. It used to be green and soup like. The flamingos share an enclosure with some fancy looking ducks in a footprint about the same size as a Barratts one bed flat but they’re hopefully getting something better. The bald parrot referred to elsewhere in reviews has only recently been taken on by the zoo. The staff are friendly and seem keen to look after their animals and the lady in the gift shop / entrance was lovely. I do hope we can see some more improvements, for the animals’ sake.

Hi Nicole A
We were 3 adults (16) and 1 child (11) and cost was about £42. AT our time of visiting, Easter, this cost allowed return visits for 7 days after which we did at a different time of day and saw different animals.
I assume they offer 'keeper' experiences as we saw a family feeding the tapirs and capybaras but I do not know the cost.
The animals are mainly South American. The armadillos were cute, the penguins had a small outside area, insects and reptiles, the lemur enclosure was interactive and be prepared for them to jump on you. There were small cats, parrots and a tropical area with turtles, tortoises and birds.
As I said in the post it is not a full day out, a few hours at the most, but if you have younger children the play park as you enter the zoo seemed nice.
Hope that is of some use. Enjoy your stay on the Isle of Wight.
