Visited as part of our taxi tour and stopped for around 15mins taking in the far reaching views across the airport towards La Linea and beyond plus watching the activities of an Ape family running around the magazine roof. This artillery position was built back in 1732, upgraded with a 6inch Naval gun in 1905 and although since removed from here, these guns were still used up until the 50s for coastal defence!. The underground shell magazine currently houses a military museum but it was closed when we visited. A concrete plaque nearby commemorates the spot where HM and Duke of Edinburgh stood during their visit to Gib in 1954.

Great views of north west side including the airport runway. The underground exhibition was closed when we visited one afternoon in early October. We saw a battery nearby which is in good condition and has a concrete path and iron rail for rotation.

It's simple if you pass this take a moment to enjoy the view on the city, you even see most of the airport.
And no monkeys, thus also less tourists acting like monkeys :P

An interesting fire point, with fantastic views to north and west of the Rock, You can quite see why guns were placed there.
There is a single cannon, which I estimate is late 18th / early 19th century and in good condition.
You can also see where a 6in gun was mounted in 1905. Underneath this plinth there is a memorial to those who have defended Gibraltar. It also houses a shell hoist which is identical to one to be found in the Nothe Fort, Weymouth, where I volunteer, installed in the same time frame, so interesting to see.
Oh, and I walked up from Main Street, using Castle Steps, surprising my 69 year old self - but I cheated on the descent catching a bus from the top of the Steps.
If you make it to the Moorish Castle, keep going, I thought it rewarding.

Another place for a great photo spot atop the Rock of Gibraltar, with views of the runway and across to Spain and the Bay of Gibraltar. There were a fair few apes appreciating the view both times we passed too and they didn't seemed to be bothered by our presence.

A cool stopover on our trek around Gibraltar, this is worth visiting if only for the exceptional views! Take some great photos and enjoy seeing everything for this angle!

This is by far the best battery on Gibraltar !!! And it's not advertised !
To be fair, I was looking for it and missed it! By the roadside painted sign saying Princess Caroline's battery... which is where you are...is a track leading off. Follow this and you reach the VERY best battery in Gibraltar ! I think.....We were a bit rushed and I did not want to go down that track and find we were wrong. We ended up at the Siege tunnels looking down on the battery. Next time !!! Do tell me if I am right!

After along walk from st Michaels cave this was a good stopover place to sit and explore the battery, from this position you can see over to La Linea and the airport, we did not visit inside the battery as it was closed when we arrived but we have visited in the past and found it very interesting. This is on the road up to the siege tunnels, the road up to the tunnels is quite steep so a rest here was welcome.

I stopped here on a tour. I liked looking at the old battery location. This one was nice but didn’t have any monkeys. Love those monkeys.
