    Mirage
The day was cold and damp. One of those days were you feel chilled right down to the bone. Looking for shelter from the elements to restore My weary body I walked the streets of Whitley bay. Then out of the mist a beacon of hope appeared like a mirage in the desert I headed towards this little bit of hope. As I opened the door wiping the rain from my eyes it hit me. It hit me hard. Like seeing a holy miracle. Like seeing Newcastle United winning a cup. A poster. A poster the would warm even the coldest of hearts. (£1.90 a pint of John Smiths). Was it real was it in my head had I seen it wrong. No there it was it was real. Stepping forward to the bar a tall gentleman in a black cap greeted me warmly and asked me my order. John Smiths I stuttered still in shock at the price. But still as he poured in aye was sceptical. He place the heavenly pint in front of me and said. £2.10 please. I froze in shock unable to move are talke for a few moments. £1.90 the sign says i muttered. The barman look at me and said it it is Normally but it goes up the weekend 20p. Realising it was 11-38am Saturday the 4 of June I agreed to pay the extra 20p. The pint was one of the best I had drank for a long time. Traveling the country from Shetland to Cornwall like I have you remember a good pint. And this was up there with a great kebab are for the vegans a Gregg's veg sausage roll.( They tast nowt like sausage) after 8 of these pints and only spending £16.80 wich is normal wat you pay for 3 not so good pint in most pubs I left looking for a Doner kebab with chilli and salad. But that pub and the people in it will live with me forever especially the price's. till the next time we're brought back together. Probably Friday when a get back home ......

    Good old fashioned traditional pub
My twin brother Stephen and I decided to jump the tram down from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Whitley Bay and take in the delights of this lovely seaside resort and what a great find in The Fat Ox Pub ,a pub that was just a joy to visit. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, multi roomed, dark wood features abound throughout this pub, pubby decor and furnishings, tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a proper chill out pub . We were here on a Wednesday afternoon, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we ordered a Strongbow cider each, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My cider was really good, a hot afternoon and nothing cuts through the thirst like a cider, so tasty, so refreshing, absolutely perfect. We both really enjoyed our ciders in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to The Fat Ox Pub we were totally impressed. The Fat Ox Pub is easy to locate along Whitley Road. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, 11am till 11.15pm. A wonderful pub, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

    Always good
Great pub best about. If your looking for cheap quality beers this is the place to come. If your lucky and come in on the rare occasions the Viking Woody Ginger Beard is in you can relax beside the fire and listing to his complete codswallop. Tails from how he defeated the Scottish with only him and £27 pound he lent 8 months ago. Are my fav how he can do any job better then you.....bit amazing pub proud to call me local

It’s a bit of a tradition now for me and my partner to have a couple of drinks on a Wednesday afternoon. We normally kick off in here and enjoy our drinks in the little snug . This is one of my favourite pubs traditional and full of character, which provides free food on the counter including soup and pastries on a Wednesday. We have also visited On a fri and Saturday night for the live music 🤟.

Following my last disappointment Emma invited us today and they certainly redeemed themselves. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was delicious and piping hot and the portions more acceptable. We will definitely go again for lunch and suggest this is a place to put on your “to visit “ list. Many thanks to everyone involved.

Visited this pub with friends my friend fell asleep so we ordered a taxi, just after that the bar staff came over and took the drink and told us to get her out and said she was disgusting.saying what has she had she had the wine that they served her and also knew she was drunk when serving her, then went on to scream and swear in my face, never have I been in a pub and been treat like that, I went back to see the manager at 6.00 the lad behind the bar said he was the manager then a lady came in and said she was the maneger and to be honest they were as bad, none of them should be working in a pub with an appalling attitude like they have, disgusted isn't the word !!!!!

Arrived for a meal, all chilled out! Tall dark haired barman very unhappy with him self!! Very rude and obnoxious, one hell of a chip on his shoulder!! But well held off, beer was OK, wasn't happy about a few samples!! Meal clashed on the table!! Rubbish!! don't know if it was the Friendly welcome?? we got put or taste buds?? But all 4 had the same opinion !! Been back of band nights ! Seems OK, but the Guy has the same chip on both shoulders !! Serving all the local aging Bikers !! 2 night a week pub! GIVE IT A BIG MISS!! Better next door at the Town House!!

The Ox is a traditional pub that now offers food to add to its already well established reputation as a weekend music venue. We have drank at the Ox for many years and at first we did wonder about the idea of cooked meals but no need to worry.

The kitchens have been totally refitted and the food was really hot and fresh at a reasonable price. This could be a new direction for this popular old venue.

We will try the Sunday lunch next!

Called in to try the Sunday lunch on a recommendation of a friend. We initially tried at 2pm the previous Sunday but they had ran out of meals, not to be put off we tried again at 12:30 the following week. We were in luck - had a choice of 3 portion sizes foolishly my husband tried the largest -OMG!!! Plate was loaded with beautifully prepared and cooked fresh veg and the beef - just like mum used to make. It was one of those meals that even though you are full the food is so delicious you just have to clear you plate. Fabulous... Just fabulous.
The staff were brilliant too very helpful place an authentic proper pub just brilliant.
Would I go back again ..... Of course try and stop me fabulous place food staff and atmosphere

We have had sunday lunch here four times. The meat and five vegetables and large yorkshire pudding were always
consistent. The staff were very friendly. It now seems to be our regular haunt now on a Sunday.

I used to go to this pub every weekend but since the refurbishment I'll not be back. The dramatically dropped prices have attracted the worst of customers. The management have let go the best bar staff they had and appear to have no clue what makes a welcoming, friendly pub!

Friendly staff and a good range of beers and ciders.

Has bands on at a weekend.

Does food on a lunchtime. Haven't eaten there in quite a while.

Toilets are maintained and clean.

Worth a visit.
