We went earlier in the month based on the recommendations of folk at work. As the other half wasnt convinced we went and watched a matinee, as a tester. We loved it. We had a reasonably priced glass of wine, the seats were comfortable and the picture and sound quality was great. My only gripe is it is a bit queuey at the bar, even just for a coffee what with people checking in and what have you but I daresay the back bar is open in the evenings. I'm hooked, my love for cinema is rekindled and I'm going back at the weekend!

Visited here following a recommendation and was not disappointed. The cinema is just off the main street thru Whitley Bay. Booking tickets in advance is strongly recommended. There are 3 cinemas and each has several performances at different times during the day. The other novelty is the pricing structure. You can pay over £4, over £5, or over £6, depending on what you can afford. We were in cinema 3 which was quite small. A double seat at front on both sides specifically for people with mobility problems. Behind them, on each side, is 4 rows of 4 very comfortable (almost armchair) seats. Before you enter your particular cinema you can buy coffee, sweets, etc. We took our coffees into the performance. There is a drinks holder in each chair. There was also a bar so you may be able to take alcohol in to the viewing when it is open?! My only slight issue was the length of time it took to make the coffees, causing queues at both the tills. However, very impressed with my first visit and will definitely return

One of my favourite places in Whitley Bay. Every seat is a VIP seat, the staff are enthusiastic and friendly and the bar is a great place to unwind before the film. Even the snacks are fairly priced, plus you can take your alcoholic drinks in to the auditorium. I can honestly say I have not been back to the big chain multiplexes in a few years since I first visited here, it's just not the same experience. Totally recommend to anyone who loves films.

Lovely small cinema in the heart of Whitley Bay. It has 3 screens, the seats are big and comfortable, there's a bar which sells alcoholic and soft drinks + tea and coffee and snacks and tickets One way entry, separate exit. Small lift, stairs as well to bar and cinema level. Usual washroom services. We had a good experience and will be going again.

Friendly helpful considerate staff. Jam Jar Cinema is a must if you are visiting the area. Surely a regular outing for locals.
Fabulous experience also super clean.
Decor is eye-catching the seats are super comfortable regardless of your size.
Drinks and snacks are cheaper than anywhere else so please do not take your own.
We would love to have one of these local to us.

Visited yesterday evening to see “The Duke” with my husband. Had a drink at the bar and took it into the cinema. The whole experience was very pleasant. There were about thirty of us in the small cinema. The seats were comfy and although we were in the front, we didn’t have to strain our necks looking upward. The film was subtitled and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find out that this is available locally. No more trailing to the Metro Centre or Silverlink for me!

I love the jam Jar Cinema. The seats are so comfortable, lots of leg room and the bar area is great.
The atmosphere is very friendly and the volunteers do a great job.
We always try to see films here instead of one of the big chains, its a much nicer experience overall.

Last time I went to the cinema was 2009. I’m not keen. Expensive, annoying other customers and you can watch ‘em on Netflix soon anyway.
I was persuaded by my wife to visit Jam Jar one cold January afternoon . She said I’d love it. I was sceptical - but she was right. I did.
Jam Jar occupies the upper floor of a building that was once a post office, convenience store and now a gym. It’s a slightly scruffy 1960s style building right in the centre of town. Once up the stairs though, it’s a remarkable transformation. Well decorated, well lit and well furnished. The reception/bar is worth a visit by itself and there’s a new bar just opened for screen 2 as well.
You ‘check in’ at the bar ( very civilised) and I’d advise relaxing with a pre- show tipple. It’s a good atmosphere. Staff are friendly - and there are plenty of regulars.
The screens are small but well done. Seats are very comfy (modern) and although you’re welcome to take drinks in, it’s a civilised affair - more like a theatre.
If you’re a fan of the big blockbuster/surround sound/chairs shaking at every explosion kind of film - this might not be for you. If you love cinema and want to watch films in a great ‘neighbourhood’ cinema with a decent bar - this is definitely for you.
It had to be special to get me back after 11 years -and it was. Loved it.

Hello there, the best thing to day is check out their website as all the information you need is on that; prices vary but are very reasonable compared to the big chains, and if you are a `friend of` then its only £5 per ticket for adults.
The Jam Jar is currently expanding to have two more screens, which will also be small capacity which maintains its uniqueness and I hope you enjoy your visit as much as we do

What is the telephone number?
D0ugMatthews
Whitley Bay, UK11 contributions
They don't have an in house telephone, to book via the telephone would cost an extra £2.50 a ticket so they don't do it. If you have a general enquiry you can email in below or pop in and see them. The online box office is open 24hrs and the venue's box office is open 40hrs per week.
Do I need to book?

Some of our screenings sell out quite far in advance. We're only a 50 seat screen so if you know there is a particular screening you wish to come to we do advise pre-booking. This can be done in house during our opening hours or online 24hrs via the Jam Jar Cinema website. You can also choose your seat on there and likewise see how busy the screening is/whether you need to prebook - we do advise it though.
Hope to see you at Jam Jar Cinema soon :)
