Hell hole
Nov 2021 • Couples
This place is a health and safety hazard, needs major investment, there’s still northern electric sponsor boards? How old? Frances needs to put his hand in his pocket instead of being tight and putting peoples lives at risk, the place is full of asbestos, ceiling tiles cracked and missing. The food in the cafe is appalling, I’ve seen better food on 3rd world charity appeals. The skates are the same ones from 20 years ago, more than likely catch an STD wearing them.
The whole place needs to be demolished.

Accidents happen but
Oct 2021
My daughter loves skating and is competent on the ice but yesterday had a bad fall which has led to her arm being in a splint.

No staff came to check how she was and my concern is that no one in the rink is keeping an eye out for such accidents.

I hope that is not the case.

No hockey skates allowed on the ice
Oct 2021
Very disappointed with this rink. We arrived for the 10-12 Sunday morning session. To my amazement I was told that I would not be allowed on the rink with my hockey skates. I have skated for years at many venues and never been told I could not wear hockey skates

I also was told by the lady at the door that a figure skating lesson was being held during the general skating session, and that the centre region of the rink was off-limits to general skaters. This was a first for me. It seemed to me that management wanted to squeeze the general skate punter for their cash and give them a sub-standard experience in favour of the figure skater. I was left asking myself why didn't management reserve the session for figure skating OR general skating? I leave the reviewer of this post to answer that.

After being astonished with the rules set by management for the Sunday morning session (I found out at the time it also applied to Saturday morning sessions), our party of eight left the premises hugely disappointed without skating and without releasing any cash.

Lovely skating

The best part about the ice rink (aside from actually skating) is the cafe. It definitely has not changed at all since I stopped doing regular lessons in 2015, which is insane to me as that is 6 years ago. The admission to get into the rink is very overpriced. I’m just glad I don’t have to pay extra to rent out the skates as I have my own. It’s extortion. The toilets are pretty bad for what they are. They should knock down the two separate doors for women’s toilets and make it into a big one. The music they were playing wasn’t great either, and by the time we were an hour and a half in it started replaying the same songs from the beginning. Overall a good experience but it’s kind of a dump for what you pay for to be honest.

What an over-priced dump.
Aug 2020 • Family
The ice rink is 60 years out of date and doesn’t look like it’s had a penny spent on it since it was opened. The place is a complete dump. It smells bad throughout, the timber floors are all rotten and I don’t think it’s ever been cleaned. The toilets are an absolute disgrace.

The pricing is ridiculous given what I’ve written above. It’s £7.50 for an hour on the ice at the moment, which is more expensive than any other rink in the country. This suggest to me that the owners are simply profiteering money grabbers.

I had hoped the covid 19 situation would create sufficient financial challenges, that would have resulted in it being taken over by someone actually willing to invest in the place, but alas, we are stuck with the status quo. Tragic.

Brilliant fun for all the family.

Came here with the kids and had a great hour and half on the ice. The building is a little run down in places but doesn't affect the skating and adds to the charm of the place.

Birthday party mistake
Jan 2020 • Family
My daughter really wanted her party here. We visited before Christmas to check it out. Yes the toilets are disgraceful and yes it is run down but I thought well if she really wants it there then I'll book it. We arrived at around 1.50 for a 2pm party. It is part of a public session which is fine the price is fair per kid based on this, BUT I didn't know if I could push to the front or stand at the back of the VERY long queue so we would never have been in before 2.30! Anyway amongst the chaos I spotted a young girl in a fluorescent vest. Who was clearly a party host (that you pay for) she wasn't mine there were 2 parties. That was the answer..... so where is the other one! Found her eventually and she took kids round for skates etc and gave them an orange band! They had zero help putting on their skates, we had all the presents and bags with party stuff in so couldn't really help. Then on to the ice. I didn't see her integrate with the kids once, I actually had to get skates on and go and help them out. Then to the food! No cutlery or napkins provided. Then we had to tidy the room after because the girl had another party. I wouldn't have had any objection at all about tidying the room as I would expect to. But what that party host did imo was carry a tray of food up some stairs! I wouldn't go back for a party ever.

Enjoyed skating and friendly staff but please, please invest in the ice rink. The interior was in poor state, toilets disgusting and amenities spartan ... exactly like Durham ice rink 35 years ago. Come on, the world has moved on and Northerners deserve better !!

Skating fun. Rude staff.

Just to say that the girls working in the ice skate hire booth could learn some manners. A smile or even taking any consideration that customers are infront of them would go a long way. Skating was good however. Toilets very dirty.
