We booked waves for a toddler soft play party with room hire back in April. Unfortunately, the whole process and on the day experience was stressful. Upon checking Facebook one evening, I came across a post which appeared to be offering out the soft play to the public for an Easter event during the time we had paid for the soft play party. I rang up immediately was told someone would call us back. When called back there was no apology and instead they asked if there was any chance we could change the time of our party, baring in mind there was just over a week until the party, all invites had already been sent out and replied to. This seemed like a very poor response to something they had messed up on and double booked! When we arrived on the day there were queues out of the door which made it really hard to bring our decorations, food and cake etc. into the building. We felt like the soft play area was barricaded off as they had screens up for the event in front of the soft play and guests weren’t able to find us easily and meant we had to keep leaving the soft play area to find guests. When we arrived we were advised we could leave our decorations, food etc. in the room and had to interrupt a course that was on at the time. We didn’t think anything of this at the time and assumed the room would be free to use in good time as we were told that we would be able to have this around an hour beforehand. We kept checking to see if the room was still in use multiple times and asked reception each time to see if we could go in to decorate, each time told they would ask but nobody seemed to leave the desk or go on the telephone and instead joked that the more we pestered looking into the room might make the tutor finish the course earlier. 50 mins passed and after asking the reception staff (who weren’t very helpful at all) several more times about what time we could go into the room, we were still left unsure on what was happening. Finally, 10 mins before the children were meant to come off the soft play, we were told we could enter which meant we barely got to decorate the room and wasted a lot of decorations and felt very stressed due to the little time to get prepared! After all of this hassle, at the end we were given an apology, told we shouldn’t have been promised the room so far in advance and told half an hour is what we should have been told (baring in mind we had 10 minutes before the children were expected to come off the soft play is still no where near that time!) and a balloon dog to compensate. Also, someone advised that the children could have a little longer on the soft play due to the lateness but because of the Easter event, this was interrupted by members of the public entering and children much too old to be on the soft play ruining the play time! Because of all of this negativity we will not be returning or booking anything in future!

Arrived for our pre booked slot tonight at 17.50, new covid rules seem straight forward, new band system in place.
In pool for approx 50 minutes then they called us all out, end of session, the wave machine hadn't been on at all while we were there.
When talking to life guard about the duration of our visit and the lack of waves I was told, "I'll let them know".
Not sure as to how this would resolve anything, on leaving I spoke to the staff again near reception who were very apologetic but somewhat dismissive of my complaint, only able to apologize to me, rather than offer a complaint procedure/resolution.
The life guard then looked at the paperwork and said the wave machine was on at 17.50.
Bearing this in mind I would suggest not booking time slot with 50 mins past the hour or face the dissappointment of no waves at waves.
The wave machine being this places unique selling point, and then it not working, all adds up to a dissappointment.

You can’t really expect much from local authority pools these days; budget cuts mean that they are working on limited money for refurbishments and upgrades. But my god, surely they can do better than this.
The place is simply unclean. The changing rooms, where three members of staff were just stood round talking for about twenty minutes as old uses plasters littered the shower floors and the changing cubicles were disgusting, are beyond dilapidated.
The pool is vile. The water looks murky, the floor stained with rusted elements in it, cramped and over crowded and not to mention freezing cold.
The staff look utterly sick of their lives, not a smile or a warm tone in the voice from any of them.
Still. It was under £14 for a family of four so what more can you expect.
I’ve never rushed home to get a shower faster than I have after being here this morning.

Arrived to be told waves machine hasn’t been
working. But still went in for swim and slide.
But the slide was not working either.
Had quick dip with my son and left after 10 mins.Water not even that warm either.
What a dull place.
The only consolation was the chocolate milkshake was delicious in the cafe.
Won’t be returning.

After a hard weeks work my self and a friend decided we needed to relax in the spar.
Lo and behold when we got there we were told it hadn’t been open for a while and was closed until further notice. This seems to be a regular occurrence at this waste of time venue. Come on NTC get your act together man.

We recently visited here for the first time with our young child. We used the pool. Found the changing rooms clean, large and perfectly fitted for our needs. We didn't get much direction from reception however on which way to go, this was as i say our first time to the centre. The pool itself had a fun baby/toddler area with a pirate ship complete with slides, water features and other activities. The main pool had a wave machine which was great fun. This leisure centre fills a gap in the market for real "fun" and family friendly swimming pools because it is difficult to find pools that aren't just a rectangle with lanes these days. The big slides weren't on but as it was a midday morning this was to be expected. Good experience overall, will return but maybe infrequently as the price fee is a little steep when you compare to some other places.

Popped in for a few hours of fun when in the area. Price is very fair. Pool and slides fun. Changing room and pool are could use a bit of cleaning (saw bandaids etc) around the area.

Took children here yesterday and I was initially turned away by what can only be described as rude and unhelpful staff as I was on my own with 2 children, 1 turning 9 in a matter of months and a confident swimmer and the other under 1. Fortunately I bumped into a friend and their family in the car park and they agreed to be the additional adult for me. Again we had to suffer the unfortunate manner of the staff at reception and be warned that on our heads be it if anything happened to my 8 year old! Pool was okay wave machine only came on once, changing rooms clean and plenty of space.

Me and my wife have 4 children 8, 6 & twins 3 the kids were looking forward to going to waves all morning but I arrival we got told from the rude women on reception we couldn't enter,
Because we had 4 young children which is disgusting as the older 2 can swim so I'll never come back to waves as long as I live I give it a 0/5

In terms of a closure then a complete restart of the place-including a thorough clean and a change of staff, preferrably whom have had an intensive training programme in customer service. To think tax-payers are paying for this!

Hi, do these swimming baths cater for 10 month olds. Is there a separate pool? Want to take my grandchild but need to know if it’ll be suitable for her.

Hi yes there is a separate pool, it usually has inflatables for small children but recommend you take your own for a baby, there are small toys as well. Double check times as there are swimming lessons on in term time.

Can you spectate on chairs inside the pool or are you in a separate area like a cafe?
Jonny
Whitley Bay, UK648 contributions
There is a small area to sit accessed next to the cafe.
If you’re accompanying a child there is also seating around the smaller pool.
