About
Our Story Grays Lounge is a cosy and intimate drinking den tucked away right in the midst of the hustle-bustle of Whitley Bay area Whitley Road where you can sip on a wide range of special cocktails, craft beers and spirits - with over 70 Gins alone to choose from, whilst relaxing to a smoothing music sounds. The bar celebrates woman who fought for woman's rights. From Charlie Chaplin's outward mistress to Suffrage and the Pankhursts. Some of images of woman not wearing many clothes on the walls are over 100 years old so if you are slightly offended remember these woman paved the way to allow a woman to have a cocktail in Grays Lounge today. Our menu consists of classic cocktails made with a twist of market-fresh ingredients. We believe in elevating cocktails into a culinary experience by putting as much care and attention into making your drinks as a chef would into preparing a dish.

Went with some friends to a party here, venue is a bit cramped for a party, two glasses of prosecco for a fiver eased the pain, only one toilet for men and women, not sure what its like through the day

Been in here a few times now as couples. Loved it the first time but I have to say something is letting it down... the bar staff.
Unwelcoming, miserable and a little rude. The atmosphere has lost its spark which is such a shame as this could be a little gem.
I will keep returning in the hope that it gets a spark or some staff with a bit of umph.

Lovely safe restaurant with lovely staff and a great range of beers and fantastic cocktails.

One of my friends had a Lemon Cheesecake Cocktail which he loved and everyone else in our party envied.

Fantastic !

Booked this place thinking it would be a fab venue to celebrate my wedding with my family. Arrived as agreed all booked and paid for after my ceremony to find the place shut and in darkness. As you can imagine the distress we endured at the total disbelief that this could happen on your most special wedding day! We waited 20 minutes on the street with surrounding shop owners coming out to check we were alright desperately trying to contact someone to have calls put down or ignored. Eventually we had the person supposedly in charge answer the door crying trying to apologise and blaming everyone else for the 'mistake' of not being ready for my reception. Something a bride shouldn't have to listen to! It completely ruined my day, denied me speeches, toasts and basically celebrating my marriage. She did manage to put some food together eventually and did offer a full refund and as I am constantly reminded a free bottle of Moët which I should be eternally grateful for but it took me and my friend over 2 weeks of chasing and listening to further excuses before I finally got a refund. Very disappointed in how everything was handled and will never go back. My lasting memory of my wedding is being totally ruined by Grays Lounge so sad.

We visited last Wednesday evening for the posh dogs and 2 glasses of Prosecco for £5 promoted on Facebook. Also to try some of the special cocktails. We arrived shortly after it opened and on trying to order at the bar were told we've no Prosecco and no apology from the rather grumpy barmaid. We then asked the barman what was in the special cocktail, he shrugged his shoulders and grunted "I dunno". We visited there for a birthday celebration and intended to stay for a while sampling the cocktails on offer, needless to say with the unwelcoming atmosphere, grumpy and unhelpful staff we didn't stay. Note for grumpy barmaid - Aldi's just up the road love, it's only a fiver a bottle, keep the customers happy and lose the attitude.

We went to Grays Lounge just for drinks before heading off for dinner at a local restaurant. We had been before and liked the decor and the cocktails. There were only two members of staff in attendance, and this was a Friday, so would have expected more. Although the interior is very attractive, it would appear that other than a heater over the door there is very little warmth in the establishment. We noticed that like us, most people kept their coats on.

We ordered three cocktails and one soft drink and had to wait ages even though the place was almost empty when we arrived. One of our party eventually went back to the bar to ask what had happened to our drinks and they arrived shortly after that. One cocktail was excellent, the other two were in glasses far too small to hold the liquid and consequently it was impossible to mix the contents properly. No coasters were provided and I had to ask for a napkin as the outside of my glass was wet.

Considering that they are charging Newcastle prices for their drinks we felt that the place needed more efficient, experienced staff and some central heating.

We went tonight after hearing so much about the place.
We arrived at 8pm and took a seat.
It was busy so that seemed good.
There only appeared to be a barman on duty so I asked for a menu.
"we are not serving food tonight" he informed me.
"Oh! Don't you serve food in the evenings?"' I asked
"yes just not tonight" he turned his back and served someone else..

We left!
There were no signs and no information on the website to suggest a reason.

Won't be back

Ate here for the first time last night with my husband and we were blown away by the quality and portion size of the seafood sharing platter. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it and joked with the lovely girl who served us how excited I was to get tucked into it. Was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate and was well worth the money. The bottle of Pinot that we had was lovely too at about £14 a bottle so a great price.Place is lovely and relaxed and has a nice atmosphere. we will definitely be back and will be telling people to try it as it's also handy for the metro and others bars etc. Would visit another time if only for drinks. Can't sing the places praises enough.

Visited Grays Lounge with a group of friends on a Friday evening at 8PM. I am pregnant so was not drinking - male member of staff was very welcoming, offering to make a mocktail of choice very efficiently, friendly and at a great price. Whereas the female member of staff was rude, did not say please or thank you when asking for ID. Just a short "ID" with a scowl. Gave change to a friend of £2 in all 20p with no apology. Customer service lets this place down.

Visited this bar for an after dinner drink with friends. The surroundings are pleasant ( if you don't mind lots of sepia toned pictures of bare boobed ladies!) but the wine was like vinegar! I managed two sips then left it! The Prosecco offer of two glasses for a fiver seemed worth a try .... the roughest I have tasted! Won't be rushing back!
