Living on the Isle of Man I very rarely have need to use the Welcome Centre in the sea terminal, but I did today, as it is one of the places you can pick up pre booked tickets for the Villa Marina and Gaiety theatre I came here to do just that, because parking is easy and free.
I was surprised to see just how much they offer visitors to the Island - maps. guide books, timetables and souvenirs aplenty! I even picked up a free, brand new replacement for my old, wrinkled parking disc!
The nicest surprise however, was the lovely, warm welcome from the lady on the welcome desk; friendly, efficient service with a smile.
A credit to our island!

I’m very grateful to the patient female staff member who helped me get on my way and have a great time on the Isle of Man. She helped me find my way to the Electric Railway stop, helped me with the timetable, and explained how to make use of my “Go Explore” card.
There’s not a ton at the Welcome Centre, but you can find a few shops, helpful staff, IOM gifts, and a postbox. I was even able to purchase stamps for my postcards there.
Thank you again for your help!

The best place if you need any info or tickets for travel around the island. The staff are very helpful and will get you the best deal available.
The shop sells local craft souvenirs and island made edibles.
Easy to find at the port.

The staff here are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble for them. They also respond very quickly to email requests for information.

Are you one of them many hundreds of thousands who believe the jottings seen on TripAdvisor’s listings are total rubbish? If you answer to this question is yes, may I just take a moment of your busy schedule and ask you to read on . . .
I run a small self-funded group called the Crumblies, from the title you can guess it’s made up of the most cantankerous old folk who were ever created. They were formerly retirees of the John Lewis Partnership (from Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire) who could win a gold medal for moaning.
When planning for The Crumblies, it can be quite a struggle as all of them are now on a fixed income called a pension. Twenty years ago throughout the United Kingdom we all had Tourist information sites in resorts up and down the country, which were manly supported by local Government. Sadly, due to Government cut backs, these wonderful outlets disappeared from our towns and cities. Those in Authority decided; you, me and everyone else, should look on the Internet for advice, but it’s not always there; not the local knowledge. By some wonderful piece of luck the Tourist information site in the Terminal building, (architectural 1960s grim), in Douglas has survived all the upheavals that have happened on mainland Britain. Make this your first port of call when visiting the Isle of Man. It’s open office hours, car parking directly outside; full of wonderful knowledge about travelling throughout the Island, history, social, entertainment, shopping: postcards and the usual gifts. Most importantly, full of local news and local gossip. It also acts as the terminal for the Isle of Man ferries and those seeking the toilet, these facilities are well worth a visit.

This is about the island as a whole, not particular about the information centre. I was on the island for the first time since 1963, but EVERYTHING seems to close down for winter. Even on a Saturday afternoon, plenty of shops/cafes are closed, nearly all museums are closed from October to god knows when, Snaefell railway, steam railway, electric trams, Laxey Wheel, etc etc all pack-in. With the current trend of winter weekend breaks places like Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, Kracow, Prague, Reykajvik etc etc are all open for business (to take advantage of tourists money) not the IOM, it seems they have taken the money in a short summer season and are now off spending it in Tenerife!

in our 4 night stay on the island we were so impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the locals. The only exception was the Welcome centre, where both staff -one male, one female-were abrupt , stony-faced and unhelpful.talk about square pegs....!

Hi you can only take it over certain times of year. When biking or car racing events are on. The best thing is to contact the information centre at Douglas for the dates.

Are there any facilities for storing luggage and a bicycle for a few hours before my ferry departs please?
Written June 24, 2017
I am not sure whether there is any area within the sea terminal for keeping luggage and bicycle whilst awaiting the ferry.would suggest you e mail or ring the terminal who would confirm whether or not there is a facility.i always use flights to the iom so the reason I don't know.Of course if you are staying in a hotel in the iom then I am sure they would accommodate your luggage etc until you need to leave for the sea terminal.

Can I get a travel card to cover trains, buses trams etc before I arrive on the island
Written February 25, 2017
Yes, they are quite helpful, even though when I was there most 'touristy' things were shut for the winter!
