Fascinating insight to a beautifully restored building
Sep 2021 • Solo
Had a fascinating back stage tour, the funds from which go directly to the restoration fund. Superb chandeliers have been purchased from the previous proceeds. An excellent tour lasting over 2 hours gets you from under the stage (where all the Various trapdoors etc are explained), into the auditorium, right up to the Highest seating area and beyond, to the film projection rooms and equipment from its use as an early cinema. Such a stunning theatre that has been restored to its Victorian opulence. I have hearing loss yet the guide was so clear I could hear every word. Don't miss this Saturday morning experience.

Backstage tour
Sep 2021 • Couples
The tour is interesting but at 2.5 hours it is far too long. The level of detail provided by the tour guide Derek says more about his level of interest than the majority of the audience.

Beautiful Theatre and a Great Show
Aug 2021
We decided to visit the Gaiety as our first post lock-down theatre trip and really enjoyed the experience.

Tickets were easy to book on-line and inexpensive at £22 for the show we saw - A Chorus line. (The show was great)

The theatre itself is really beautiful, well maintained and cared for.

The bar prices were very reasonable compared with UK prices and the staff throughout the venue were helpful and welcoming.

Can't recommend it enough

Whether you see a show or tour the building, visiting the theatre is a must-do whilst in town. Calendar Girls was especially fantastic and it was a privilege to be their on the first night - with no social distancing - a fantastic performance.

WOW ,you must visit this theatre !
Jul 2020
booked a theatre tour for us both ( Wednesdays and Saturdays ) and WOW ,what a way to spend 2 1/4 hours ,our guide was so informative and passionate about this amazing building ,you couldn't help but be caught up in it .The tour was only £5.00 each ( staycation special ) and we visited from of house ,the auditorium ,,back stage ,under the stage ! and up in the gods .The tour included viewing the old lighting ,projection equipment and a small sample of the costumes used in the theatre .
IF you only visit one place in Douglas ,make sure it is this theatre ! Its justly called the jewel in the promenade ,it shows what can be done ,when something is worth saving .
We have now booked a show on the strength of this tour .

Sound of Music. Over miked
Feb 2020 • Couples
Douglas Choral Union, great amateur production. Some slow scene changes due to lacking wing space on one side. And there are lots of scenes. Well lit. Beautifully sung. But everyone was miked, sound balance poor. Very metallic harsh sound. This a Matcham theatre with perfect acoustic design. No one needs mikes.

Lovely original old historic theatre.

Very friendly theatre, seating pretty comfortable with a range of plays, Christmas show’s , comedians and music groups/ singers.
Well worth an evenings entertainment particularly on these winter dark cold weekends.

Fantastic Theatre
Aug 2019
This magnificent theatre captures the heart, soul, and passion for excellence during the highly-acclaimed Victorian era. From an architectural perspective, it epitomises the glitz, glamour, and glory of the 'Gothic' styling concept which ruled supreme during the late 19th century. Of course, part of its elegance comes from the fact that it was designed by the world-renowned theatre designer Frank Matcham, whose other work is also of an extremely high standard, but do not come anywhere close to this beauty, though. It just embodies the soul and creates an emotional bond between man and structure that is rarely experienced. On the inside, magnificent reminisces of the aristocracy of a long-gone era still remain, echoing within every wall and room, from the lounges to the bars, everything speaks top-notch luxury.

One must acknowledge the historical importance of such preservation, as it is a very rare and astounding example of its kind, and I am more than glad that it lies within strong hands, and has a future of many more glorious years to come.

Fantastic Venue
Nov 2019
Have been to the theatre several times over the last year or so and am amazed by the building every time. I was renovated some time ago and has been restored to what would have been its former glory days. There's a grandeur about the building which is lacking in some of the modern theatres, the decore and accoustics in the place are excellent. there are tours of the theatre available, although I have not been on one I am told that they are well worth doing.

Musical
Oct 2019
Saw The Addams Family Musical here. The interior is so impressive, a beautiful Victorian theatre restored so the ornate decoration can be appreciated for years to come. Gives an insight into the Victorian era. Staff very friendly and helpful.
