My husband and I went to visit the Spyglass Inn on 20th July 2022 on my birthday - we are both Islanders but I hadn’t been to the Spyglass before so wanted to try it out.
We sat indoors as the weather was overcast which was a shame as we wanted to sit outdoors for the scenery but it was cosy inside. The food was delicious and portions were plentiful- I am giving 4 stars and not 5 due to the waitress just chucking our food and cutlery down and walking off without asking if we wanted any condiments- that was my only moan but we would still come here again for the lovely food and views

Ventnor is our favourite part of the island. We had been to The Spyglass Inn on previous visits and wondered what our experience would be during a pandemic. We were not disappointed.

The venue was very covid secure. Lots of cleaning and the tables were socially distanced both inside and outside.

As it was a chilly evening we sat inside by the door but still enjoyed great views.

The fish was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

A fab venue which has never let us down when we have visited.

Oh my goodness this place never fails to fill me with delicious food. I had the green lipped mussels and changed the bread for chips. I could not leave the garlic butter alone until it was all gone. The chips were cooked to perfection, crispy and well done. My mum had the fish stew and we all had a taste of that, stunning. My dad had the crab on chips and was in heaven and my husband had the steak, he informs me it was cooked to perfection. Cannot fault the food or the service and we will definitely be back before we go home. Thank you to all of your staff, fabulous.

The pub itself was cosy and food good, but the man taking our food order was extremely grumpy and unfriendly.
He made no attempt to welcome us or say goodbye when we left. At no point did he even smile.
Friendliness is so important to us when visiting a new establishment. We were surprised how unwelcoming the bar manager was and disappointed with the service, especially as we had travelled a fair distance.

My girlfriend and I visited The Spyglass Inn during our stay in Ventnor. The pub is in a great location, with a fantastic view of the sea. There is a large selection of lager and ale, and the pub has an authentic look and feel. The staff are also friendly and overall quite helpful.

However, the food is extremely average and massively overpriced (coming from someone who lives in London!) which was disappointing and really let down everything else. The deserts were better, although not the best.

I suggest coming here for a drink and to admire the scenery, but eat elsewhere.

It is a lovely location in Ventnor with great views over the seafront. The staff have worked hard to adapt to a post-covid world with table service and spaced tables. The food was generally good and the atmosphere really lovely.

This is a good local pub. Really oldie world feel and nice outdoor seating area. Food is pretty basic but it is cheap.

The spyglass inn was recommended by a friend . The inn sits bang on the beautiful vent or beach . Lot’s of seating inside ,outside ,everywhere . The pirate/ ship/ sea theme runs everywhere . If the weather permits its great to sit outside watching the waves.
We were 4 of us ,and were lucky to find a place outside, but it soon got windy and chilly and we managed to move to a semi covered veranda .
You have to go inside and order your food and drinks. Then go back ,sit and wait and wait and wait for it to be served !!!
The kitchen is so slow , and the service is even slower . The food was ok . The only saving grace was the excellent sticky toffee pudding .

Really enjoyed our dinner overlooking the seafront, lots of choice: especially seafood. Generous sized portion of fresh prawns and the Calamari was hot and tasty as it should be (for my friend) and I had the tuna steak. Lovely desserts to choose from and liquor coffee option to finish, perfect
