- TylerTorquay, United Kingdom15 contributionsLoved Fred DinenageWe're giving this a score of 4 because Fred Dinenage was such a star and gentleman. We also very much enjoyed Alex Dykes interviewing. A great piece of journalism. We would have given 5 if: there was less time allotted (quite a high proportion) to the facile questions from the audience; we would say, cut the time allotted in half and use more film and recordings and, if possible (we know arts venue budgets are very tight) try and tidy up the quality of the film/equipment and sound and last but not least the management should be more assertive with more Joe Public just getting out of their seats at random during the performance and wandering past the artists-this wouldn't be tolerated during a theatrical performance; we do have to apologise for Paignton (property is significantly cheaper here than the rest of the English Riviera!).Thank you for your lovely review and comments (which we have shared with the producers). We do work hard to ensure a comfortable visit for all of our audience members and encourage everyone to respect their fellow theatre goers.Written April 6, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 24, 2024
- Iain C1 contributionFred Dineage was very entertainingFred Dineage was genial, gentlemanly, articulate, funny and extremely entertaining. Ably assisted by Alex who more than once had trouble distinguishing Ronnie from Reggie, he provided wonderful recollections of his times with the Kray twins and excellent samples of his past antics with TVS, World of Sport and “How”. The clip of his appearance on Tiswaz is the stuff of legend, with a youthful, grinning and bewigged Lenny Henry at play. He gave up his interval for selfies and autographs. A superb evening of entertainment.Thank you for your lovely review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the show and the experience. - Zoe E3 contributionsMagical wedding venueMy sister and brother-in-law had their wedding here yesterday and oh my days what an incredible venue for it! Everything looked beautiful, the staff were incredibly lovely and welcoming and the coordinator from the venue was also amazing, she made sure everything ran smoothly and all knew where we were going. There was also the ability for both the bride and groom parties to get ready on site separately without seeing each other. The venue and the staff helped make it a truly magical day for them and I would highly recommend this as a great wedding venue that’s also budget friendlyThank you so much for your review. - RodPlymouth, United Kingdom36 contributionsReally lovely experience , butSaw Steeleye span here last night. A really positive experience we all enjoyed from the welcoming, enthusiastic staff, many of whom were volunteers to the rather quirky layout. The acoustics weren’t brilliant, but my main problem was the minimal legroom , which for anyone over 6’00” is just too small. Not a criticism really, but if you are tall, it might be worth trying to secure seats with legroomThank you so much for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed most of your experience with us. We do try to help our talker customers by allocating the best seating to them for legroom. Our advice next time is to go for an aisle seat, row R (1,2,3,4), row S or Row A. If you don’t manage to get these seats we will always do our best to get you the best we can.Written May 23, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 13, 2024

We opted to have a meal at The Palace beforehand as I am less able we had our meal in the bar the food was very good but very large portions. As I was on my mobility scooter they made room for it in the restaurant and a parking place by the stage. Everyone was so helpful and friendly which made for a great evening.Thank you for your lovely review! It’s great to hear you had a good visit and were well looked after. - GeoKilRiocaud, France24 contributionsGreat night out.Watched the Bijou Theatre's 'Don't Dress For Dinner' last night (Tuesday) at the Palace Theatre in Paignton. What a great night's entertainment. I have seen most of the cast in roles at the Little Theatre - Torquay, but previously in straighter roles so this laugh out loud charade was a revelation. The expressive performances and comic timing moved along at a rapid pace, typical of the comic confusion of the French farce that it is adapted from. The cast all seemed to enjoy the evening as much as the enthusiastic audience. There are only two more opportunities to see this so if you'd like to be taken out of a gloomy November night to the watch absurd happenings in a French farmhouse, get tickets before it ends on Friday.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 28, 2024
- Tourist59531448184Totnes, United Kingdom2 contributionsWhat a lovely place.Went to see the Totnes School of Dance's Xmas Show. It was spectacular. The venue is lovely, plenty of room - the stage is great and lighting was fab - popped over the road to the co-op during the interval too, to bypass the queues at the bar - couldn't be better situated. Thank you all!Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten December 2, 2024

What a wonderful show well done.
When my friend and I sat down at the beginnings we both said this is going to be amateur. How wrong were we!
The pace was not stop entertainment and they must have all been exhausted at the end.
The costumes were fantastic and a very good storyline. The Sound was excellent and diction very good.
The main character Puddles was outstanding and should not have been selling raffle tickets at the beginning, save him for later.
The dancing was of a high standard and in time,The little dancers were outstanding, their timing and the fact they were singing too was amazing for their age.
The cast included the audience so much you felt part of it.I felt the children in the audience were really entertained all through the performance.
A very professional performance we really enjoyed ourselves Thank you...Ive now dried out haha.

We went to watch the panto, it was magical and just what we needed mid the covid craziness! Maureen was really accommodating when I asked to change the day we went and truly went above and beyond to secure us tickets on an alternative date. It was well organised, everyone was respectful with mask wearing and we felt very safe. The panto was absolutely perfect - proper old school but very professional! We will definitely be booking for next year!

Being on holiday in Paignton within a short distance of Agatha Christie’s house, we decided to see The Unexpected Guest at The Palace Theatre - and are so pleased that we did. It is a lovely theatre which appears to have been recently refurbished. There is a charming bar with an excellent selection of drinks, all the staff are very friendly and the show was excellent. If you are in the area, it is highly recommended.

Visited the theatre again on February
22nd, 2020. Whilst you have to applaud the actors for their hard work two problems still remain. The heating, due to lack of air conditioning, is unbearable and being unable to hear some of the actors. This was entirely due to the actors. The spoke too quietly and on occasions they either looked down when talking and even turned away from the audience. Quite a few people were complaining about this. Very disappointing

So sorry to read this review. We have worked really hard to manage the heat with this varied weather, and we are sorry we didn't manage this time.
We're sorry you were unable to hear the actors, we know they work really hard to deliver an exceptional performance, however, we will pass this on to the company. We look forward to seeing you at the next performance.

Really friendly theatre. We went to see the amateur production of the Pantomime Aladdin and it ws fantastic. Personally I love amateur productions because whilst 1 or 2 voices lacked the projection of professional productions, this is made up in spades by the enthusiasm of everyone. Also the stage was full of young dancers I think from the local dance school and actors and there really was a buzz. Professional productions, we also went to see one this Christmas, can only afford a few (4 in our case) actors. Musical numbers, dance, jokes, good story, good price FABULOUS. Daughter 7 loved it.

Spider's Web finishes tonight, we saw it last night, just because we saw a flyer at our holiday accommodation. Bijou productions have done Agatha Christie proud, Clarissa was faultless, all cast members gave a fantastic performance. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and suitably impressed. Give yourself a treat and visit the Palace Theatre tonight. We certainly won't miss an opportunity to support this Company again.

Easy free Parking on the Street nearby, a beautiful small Provincial Theatre which is very well run apart from the Bar which was too crowded and because it was full, there was nowhere to sit. We saw "A Spiders Web" which was very well acted and thoroughly enjoyable. We had a great Evening and I would highly recommend it as it is very good value for money, too.

We're sorry that the bar was too crowded for you, we have opened the auditorium up earlier to allow people to take their drinks to their seats, we will look at getting it open even earlier in future. Your feedback is welcome and well received by us.

The palace theatre is my local theatre and by far the best. I saw the phenomenal zoots there last night (for my 13/14 time overall since first seeing them on their debut at the palace) and omg I've been so in love with the theatre and the zoots from that day. The atmosphere last night was electric. The zoots were phenomenal as always... they seriously never disappoint. Maureen, deidre and all staff at the palace are jysthe the best so welcoming and friendly always. I seriously can't recommend the palace theatre or the zoots highly enough. Loads of happy tears were shed by me last night.

Will there be any plays by Agatha Christie showing end of August to beginning of September?
Written August 4, 2019
14 SEPTEMBER 2019 > A Daughter's A Daughter. Agatha Christie’s rarely performed masterpiece in a seated, costumed reading by professional actors, directed by Julius Green.
Originally written in the 1930’s, and intended as a vehicle for actress Gertrude Lawrence, the production of Agatha Christie’s deeply personal domestic drama about a troubled mother/daughter relationship was put on hold at the outbreak of the Second World War.
Convinced that it would never be performed, Christie re-worked the story as a novel, published in 1952 under the pen-name Mary Westmacott. This makes it the only original play of Agatha Christie’s to have been novelised by herself.
In 1956, A Daughter’s a Daughter was finally given its premiere for a week at the Theatre Royal, Bath, with the script updated by Christie to a post-war setting. Since then, the only staged performances of this remarkable play have been at the 2001 Agatha Christie Theatre Festival and in its West End premiere production, presented by Bill Kenwright in 2009. Although it was hailed by the national critics as a piece worthy of Terence Rattigan, it has not been performed since.
One of only two original domestic dramas written by Christie, A Daughter’s a Daughter is in many ways a companion piece to The Lie, which received its world premiere to a full house at last year’s Festival.

Is there a good restaurant close by that does pre show evening meals?
Written November 15, 2016
I am not sure? I live in Torquay and there are a few good restaurants not far. from the theatre. they are on the front over looking the beach, a very nice French Restaurant, and a few others next to each other. It would take you 10 mins in the car, or the bus.
