Crushed Chilli Gallery is owned by Stained Glass and Fused Glass artist Janet Rogers. The gallery in the centre of Durham City, showcases a fine range of contemporary art, including: paintings, sculpture, furniture, ceramics, glass, jewellery and textiles. Called in during a recent trip to Durham. Had a chance to chat to Janet about the varied and beautiful pieces she creates. The gallery is very central and light and bright. Lots of other artists work to observe and a very relaxing way to get out of the cold (lovely wood burner roaring away) and look through the various pieces for sale.

Some lovely family time spent making glass decorations to be fired. Lots of patience and help from Janet. And a lovely cup of tea.
A great activity to do with children or as an adult for creativity or mindfulness. Concentrate on making a patterned tile and see your work come to life after it’s been fired.

We came across this place tucked away on one of the many cobbled streets in the City of Durham. A beautifully kept gallery and shop packed with a myriad of unusual glassware, most of the works seemed to be hand made on the site and the staff were only too pleased to describe in every detail, exactly how they were made; we ended up staying there for quite a while.
Overall an interesting place, very friendly and good value for money.

I have been here alot and always manage to find a beautiful piece of art to buy and have even taken part in the fused glass workshop aswell. Janet and her friend/colleague are so lovely and friendly. I own afew beautiful things from this gallery/studio!

What a fantastic experience we had. Janet is so warm and welcoming that my daughter who is normally very shy felt very much at ease and really enjoyed the workshop.
The fused class decoration we made was incredibly beautiful and my daughter was so proud of herself when we collected the finish piece.
We cant wait to go back and create another piece of art.

A bit of a random one but Janet at the Crushed Chilli Gallery, Durham was incredible helpful to me.
During a filming project in Durham I had an accident with some kit and desperately needed some glass. Janet replied to my email immediately and offered me the chance to come to the gallery and test different types of glass for the filming project.
Incredible helpful, incredible friendly, saved my day!

This is a little gem of a gallery-cum-workshop for glass art. We've just started making glass art ourselves, and so were fascinated by the glass pieces on display, as well as some great painting prints. The artist often runs half-day workshops for fused glass art, and she was knowledgeable about her craft.

If you're in Durham and want to buy something beautifully crafted by local artists, then you can't do better than visit Crushed Chilli Gallery in the city centre near The Gates shopping precinct. With a very wide range of art and craft, including her own fascinating and sometimes quirky glass creations, Janet and her assistant Karen have assembled a wonderful selection. Well worth a visit.

This visit was our forth!
Janet is great at explaining to the children what to do and also allowing them the freedom to express their own designs - and it helps that there is juice and a big bucket of sweets on offer too!
