What a little gem!

What a fantastic welcome! The staff make this place, we had such good fun we went back every evening of our visit. Great selection of beers and wines, along with rumours of resident ghosts

Best Pub In Durham.
Sep 2021 • Friends
The Dun Cow Inn on Old Elvet is a fantastic pub in Durham and is without doubt one of the best and oldest pub's we visited on our day trip from Newcastle.
Housed in a grade-II listed building with an unbelievable whitewashed exterior and an excellent multi-roomed interior with superb fixtures and features throughout the whole pubs interior and a superb outside seating area where the toilets are located.
This is a fantastic pub and apparently the most haunted pub in Durham and you can see why as part's of this building may date from the 15th century.
Steeped in local history'the Dun Cow Inn is without doubt the best pub we visited as it had everything I like in a pub as it is a very historic pub and may be haunted and they serve a great beer range and the staff are superb.
We had already visited some superb pubs in Durham but by far this was the best pub we visited and when here we had a couple of glasses of Timothy Taylor's brewery ales which were perfectly served and really well priced for a pub of this quality.
The Dun Cow Inn is well worth a visit and so easy to get to from Shire Hall bus stop its a short walk.(This is my first review of the Dun Cow Inn).
Opening Hours.
Monday-Saturday-11.00-23.00.
Sunday-12.00-23.00.

Lovely little bar with friendly staff. The beer is kept really well. I recommend Timothy Taylor Landlord. Ideal for a place to relax with a pint and a chat. The batman could not do enough for me and my friends. I can't wait to visit again

Great Boozer

A great traditional hostelry with an excellent selection of local ales. Obviously well appreciated by the locals and the seats outside were perfect on a hot summer's evening. A great place for a beer or two

A pint in the sun.
Jun 2021 • Couples
Stopped off for a quick pint at this place. Although we sat outside in a well adapted seating area on the road. Inside looked quirky but didn't spend much time there as I enjoyed my pint of real ale in the blazing sun outside ina relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent pit stop pint

Enjoying a lovely pit stop pint outside the pub. Grateful for the landlords fortitude in pushing for outside seating. Support and solidarity!

Last known home of Castle Eden

Wonderful traditional and friendly pub. Idiosyncratic food - pies, toasties, huge cheeseboard. Black Sheep and Castle Eden in same pub - tremendous.

Great Beer & Lovely Welcome
Sep 2019 • Friends
We dropped into this pub on a Saturday afternoon whilst dropping my daughter in Durham to start her University life. This was a wonderful introduction to the local hospitality, great beer and a lovely surprise selection of bar snacks courtesy to the House.

A very traditional snug at the front of the pub with a sliding door was the perfect place to sink a couple of very well kept Real Ales. Everyone in the bar was friendly and the bar staff were exceptionally friendly.

I have a feeling we will be visiting again in the not to distant future.
