The museum tells the proud 200-year-old story of the Durham Light Infantry, especially during World War I and World War II. The displays focus on the experience of war, using letter and diary extracts, plus the actual voices of World War II veterans.

We bought an annual pass which is completely useless as dli no longer exists the grounds and walks were well worth visiting Some exhibitions were confusing Toilets clean Cafe good & very clean Food is quite expensive Not a lot of choice for meals Isn't enough tables which made things awkward No food aimed towards children Car park was good

I have visited this museum many times over the years, more so now I have moved back to the area. My children have visited many times, both with school and family. It was a wonderful place and a real tribute to people of the area whose relatives gave their lives for our freedom. What an utter disgrace that the council... More

It's a pity that this interesting little museum, a tribute to the members of the Durham Light Infantry, had to close. The exhibits are now in store but some can be seen at exhibitions such as that currently at the Palace Green Library in Durham City.

Unfortunately the DLI no longer exists. It was closed in 2016 and the wonderful collections have been put into storage. Those wishing to see any particular item will need to make special arrangements with Durham's County Council.

Due to cost cutting exercise by council the museum has been permanently closed. Most of the artefacts are in store and some on display for special exhibitions at the Palace Green Library. Other need special viewing at Spennymoor depository

This museum is now CLOSED. The new location is at the University Library on Palace Green where there is an interesting exhibition about the Somme 1916. If you are interested in medals they are not currently on display

What a great loss to the local area the closure of this museum is. It had only been modernized a couple of years back to great effect. Take a look at the photos to see what has now gone, possibly forever.
