It's a pity that this interesting little museum, a tribute to the members of the Durham Light Infantry, had to close. The exhibits are now in store but some can be seen at exhibitions such as that currently at the Palace Green Library in Durham City.

Unfortunately the DLI no longer exists. It was closed in 2016 and the wonderful collections have been put into storage. Those wishing to see any particular item will need to make special arrangements with Durham's County Council.

Due to cost cutting exercise by council the museum has been permanently closed. Most of the artefacts are in store and some on display for special exhibitions at the Palace Green Library. Other need special viewing at Spennymoor depository

This museum is now CLOSED. The new location is at the University Library on Palace Green where there is an interesting exhibition about the Somme 1916. If you are interested in medals they are not currently on display

What a great loss to the local area the closure of this museum is. It had only been modernized a couple of years back to great effect. Take a look at the photos to see what has now gone, possibly forever.

This was a museum honouring the men and women of the Durham Light Infantry, Then the council closed it and spread the exhibits to the four corners so they could build more executive houses. Sorry for the rant.

Due to financial "cut backs" by Durham County Council, the Durham Light Infantry Museum has closed, it is hoped that the many medals (including V C's) and other memorabilia will be housed elsewhere in the near future
