The museum tells the proud 200-year-old story of the Durham Light Infantry, especially during World War I and World War II. The displays focus on the experience of war, using letter and diary extracts, plus the actual voices of World War II veterans. Upstairs the Durham Art Gallery presents an exciting programme of exhibitions and events from concerts and talks to practical workshops for children and adults. Please ring for an exhibitions and events brochure.

Unfortunately the DLI no longer exists. It was closed in 2016 and the wonderful collections have been put into storage. Those wishing to see any particular item will need to make special arrangements with Durham's County Council.

This museum is now CLOSED. The new location is at the University Library on Palace Green where there is an interesting exhibition about the Somme 1916. If you are interested in medals they are not currently on display
