On any visit to Durham to explore the town centre you will most likely walk over Framwellgate Bridge. Stop for a moment and enjoy the views up and down the river.
A very short stroll to the many shops/cafes/restaurants in the town centre. This bridge is not an attraction is itself, but a lovely place to pause for a moment in the hustle and bustle of the town centre and admire the picturesque scenery.

This is a average bridge and it’s not the best architecture. The views are utterly outstanding. Just walk over it.

To be honest, you don't realize that you are walking on a historic 14th century bridge until you read up on Durham history, and on reflection all you remember are the views up and down the River Wear, not the old paving slabs you've just traversed.

This is a mediaeval masonry arch bridge across the River Wear, in Durham. It is a Grade I listed building and replaced the original bridge which was broken by a flood in 1400. Excellent views of the River Wear from this location. Great photo opportunity.

Framwellgate is a picturesque old bridge located in the centre of town. Nice views up and down the river, and a lovely example of hisoric architecture. The bridge itself will not take long to cross, but you can spend hours wandering around this very attractive town centre.

Dating from the 14th century, Franwellgate Bridge is a beautiful stone medieval bridge that crosses the River Wear, two spans ,its an evocative piece of architecture, Grade I listed, the bridge most certainly offers some of the best views of the River Wear, Durham Cathedral & Durham Castle, its an extremely busy bridge that's most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Durham.

This is an old and interesting bridge that for many people will give them their first view of Durham and it gives some of the best views of the cathedral and the castle.

Bland on the top but it’s nice off the side. The views are great too. This history is not that good though.

We walked over the bridge and doing this you really get a feel for the area. Litter free area and nicely kept. A lovely route into town.
