This is a average statue. It’s typically not interesting at all. It’s basically a man on a statue with a fork.

Situated right at the heart of town, can be viewed amongst other prime monuments/statues and surrounded by shops and facing the church.
Prime starting point when in Durham.

A very nice statue in the centre of town, if somewhat overlooked due to the two other statues in this fairly small town square. Still worth a look especially when you consider thius statue is nearly 300 years old, a lot of history has past since this was made.

The Durham Market Square with its’s majestic statues, the cutest Market Hall selling everything under a roof, many decent eating places around... WHSmith with its classic stationery, the Barclays and HSBC Banks around, an Euro exchange travel bureau just a stones throw away... You have it all.... It is the heart of Durham with the pulse that is almost tangible...
In the last ten days of my stay in Durham, whenever I would come towards the city, I would invariably sit in one of the benches in the Market Square and spend my time watching all the activities taking place... It looked to be the meeting point of many people... Students studying in Durham University would come to the Market Hall, some would grab a bite sitting on one of the benches... People would come along with their dogs and walk them around... A group of kindergarten students had come for a tour of the Market Hall and later they sprawled out in the Market Square making sketches of what they had seen...
It is pure joy watching the hum-drum activities that constantly go on in the Market Square...

I thought it strange that there should be a statue of Neptune in the Market Square in Durham but seemingly it represents Durham's connection with the sea.
It is a very well executed representation of Neptune.

Located on Market Place is this cool statue in honour of Neptune, Roman God Of Water .
It's a stylish statue, very animated, not sure what the significance of the statue is to Durham I just found it fascinated, its cool, adds to the joy of walking around Market Place its a good landmark statue that's most definitely well worth checking out.
