This is a nice monument to the veterans of the Durham Light Infantry, an historic infantry regiment. It is in the Market Place square in front of the town hall. It has a striking and effective statue as well as inscriptions on the base.
By happenstance, shortly before arriving in Durham I had just discovered at the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum in Caernarfon that it was formed in part from a prior regiment (the 68th Regiment of Foot) which was itself created from a battalion of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

One of the better regimental memorials. It has an informative plaque about the regiment and a second one explaining the relevance of the soldier portrayed in terms of the nature and history of the regiment.

If you want to know about the DLI this is the place. A unique insight into the history of this regiment and very humbling as there are awards for brave actions to see.

The Durham Light Infantry Memorial is a nicely presented great looking statue in a well deserved prominent location outside the Town Hall. A fitting tribute to the many service men who fought and died for our country. You won't spend a whole lot of time here at eh statue, but a few minutes at the statue is all that is needed to remind us all of the sacrifice.

Part of the history of the Durham area. A nice memorial. It is worth reading about the Durham Light infantry and their exploits prior to your visit. You will appreciate the memorial more.

A new memorial in the market place right in front of the indoor market. The memorial commemorates the Durham Light Infantry. Spend a few minutes taking in the information on the plaque.

This statue is located outside the entrance to the indoor market. It is a little small compared to the other memorial in the market place and is not as detailed as other similar memorials I have seen but very important to the City.

This lovely memorial standing in the Market Place commemorates The Durham Light Infantry. Judging from the number of people photographing it, it is well known and liked. It was nice to see people avoiding walking in front of us taking a photo .
