Great selection of ales both cask and draft, changes daily.
Attentive staff notice when you are low on beer and are straight over to take your next order even when busy. Enjoyed chatting with Tom and his knowledge on beer is good, nice to see a manager get stuck in. Tables were sanitised and cleared as soon as people left and distancing was good.
Stouts, pales, sours and lagers. Spot on!

Hidden gem in the centre of town. Very well priced drinks (ÂŁ4-5 for gin and mixer) and a good range. Good service and lovely outdoor seating that gets the sun in the afternoon. Nice to have table service rather than order online as well.

We called in for a couple of drinks before lunch. As expected they have a great range of beers and ciders. If you are looking for Carling & John Smiths go to weatherspoons. This place serves excellence, and is obviously more expensive than other places, but you pay for what you get.
Really comfy environment and friendly staff. Would recommend and will be returning.

Called in for couple of drinks not realising it was one of those pubs that only do those special beers ipa etc, anyway said I would have a pint, he only filled the glass two thirds and said that's how it works so we said no thanks and left went another pub,got a full pint for half the price I give this pub another six months won't survive like that. Only found it by accident Anyway in a bad part of the town.

Made our first visit to Mellards Bar, this weekend. We took the bus to Newcastle bus station which is only a short walk (~2 minutes) from the bar. We’d brought our mini cockapoo, having seen that the bar was doggy friendly via the CAMRA good beer guide app. We were greeted by a really friendly, polite and welcoming barman - Tom. He pulled a good pint of real ale, mixed a great cocktail and provided a bowl of water for the dog. Really modern and comfortable interior with good background music playing. All-in-all a really great bar. We’ll definitely be back! 👍🏻

Great place to visit for a good quality drink or two. A new and welcome addition to the N-U-L bar scene.

Friendly staff and lovely sun trap of a beer garden. Loads of beers on offer so I come here regularly to treat myself. I just can't help it.

Best bar in town,
I have visited mallards on many occasions both with friends and on dates and we all feel this bar is the best in town.
As you walk towards the bar it has a very rustic feel to it, from the old industrial style brick to the large metal gates that were open to walk through you can see the building has a lot of history behind it.
When walking into the bar I felt very relaxed, there was chilled out music playing and very relaxing style decor which made me feel very comfortable. On approaching the bar I was greeted by the bar tender who made me feel very welcome. I then had a look at the drinks they sold and was then informed about what they were, the ingredients in them and how they tasted, I even had a free sample.
Me being gluten intolerant I really struggle to find a place that actually sells gf beer/craft ale but this place catered for my illness.
I had a fantasma which was the best gf beer I've ever tasted. I relaxed on one of the many comfy couches they have up the stairs and had a great time. Would certainly recommend.
