Beautiful painting of Kynance Cove
May 2016 • Solo
I went to Cornwall the first week of May this year as a trip down memory lane from when I was a kid with my family. One place in particular that I wanted to visit was Kynance Cove, my mums favourite place by far to visit anywhere in the world, and she has been to a lot of beautiful places. She loves it there and was so happy when I told her we went there again.
It gave me the thought of having a painting done for her and being such an important place in my mums heart I knew I had to find someone with great skill, talent and passion to paint this for her. This is when I was told about Martin Leighton and his work, I was shown some other pieces he had done and I instantly knew he was the person for the job.
I was quickly in contact with Martin and Sue and every email I sent and phone call I made was promptly replied to or answered. I sent them some images I liked for him to work from and told Martin that I would leave it to his creative flair as to how he approached it, I simply wanted it to have the tide out with a sunset.
Within a week I was sent a picture of the completed painting to make sure I was happy with it (which I was) and received it the day after I had paid for it very securely packaged and safe and it is even more stunning when holding it in person!

Martin has created a truly beautiful work of art that I will be presenting to my mum tonight when she gets back from holiday. I already know she will love it and I would strongly recommend Leighton Art Gallery for anyone looking for a truly talented artist who will deliver beautiful art.

Thank you for your kind recommendation. Martin found it a pleasure to create a painting which meant so much to your Mother. A painting can be a gift to last a lifetime and this will remind you all of happy times on holiday together, so we hope your Mother has many years of pleasure from it.

Eclectic mix of art
Sep 2015 • Solo
Small place near the harbour over two floors, so if you're not good with stairs probably not the place to go. The had a wide range of different art styles available. Friendly place, welcoming. If you're passing I would pop in, you may find something to your liking but I wouldn't go out of your way to go there. Interesting but small.

Hidden in a little corner is the Leighton Art Gallery, we were immediately captivated by the amazing talents of the artist who came and spoke to us about his style. Very interesting and informative about some amazing pictires. Honestly this is a must visit when you are in Weymouth

We like this gallery, went there on Saturday, artist is friendly, paintings are nice indeed. As good a gallery as Westover Gallery in my view. Bought a nice picture, may go back in the future.

Fantastic Art Gallery, well worth a visit
Jun 2015 • Friends
Tucked away just off the Harbour is a real treasure, The Leighton Art Gallery. Its on the first floor above a convenience store but its well worth the walk up the stairs. The Artist himself Martin Leighton is usually in attendance and he is ready to answer any questions you might have about his works (and the works of other artists displayed) There is a good selection of Landscapes, figurative and abstracts and the prices are very reasonable (especially compared to similar galleries in the South West such as those in Padstow or St Ives) So highly recommended for lovers of high quality original art.

A brush with art
May 2015 • Solo
TUCKED away down a small back street in an old sail loft barely 50 metres from Weymouth’s harbourside is a little gem of art, the Leighton Gallery.
Just standing in front of the premises – which are on the far side of the harbour from the town centre -- you immediately get the impression that here is something out of the ordinary.
That may be because the entry sign of a woman with her back to you pointing upwards to direct Trinity Road passers-by up to the large first floor gallery is actually a painting by the owner.
Step off the street past postcard-sized examples of various full size works and you are stunned by an amazing giant painting showing the full sweep of Weymouth beach which just oozes class.
If after that you can resist going upstairs to see if there are any more artistic delights then you’re better than I am and a dozen or so stairs took me up to the gallery entrance itself.
As you’d expect of a gallery, the lighting is very good indeed, but the first thing you actually see is a comfy sofa, presumably so people can take their ease while enjoying everything from a large array of paintings to cards, ceramics and glass.
The paintings themselves include a number by gallery owner Martin Leighton who clearly knows his way round a canvas since on show were several good landscapes and seascapes, some very good wildlife paintings including a majestic elephant and some really good “people” paintings and portraits.
The gallery also display a number of striking paintings by the late Trevor Lawrence who tantalises those who look at his works with the hint of half seen figures in tenement buildings close together, sometimes light and sometimes dark.
You can walk away with a small painting here for a couple of hundred pounds or a large one for one or two thousand but they all have one thing in common – a very high standard of workmanship.
And if you are feeling nosy then you can peer through little windows set in the left wall of the gallery as you enter and see the artist’s workplace. It’s all part of the atmosphere of the place.
Entry to the gallery is free and half an hour spent strolling round enjoying the works is time well spent. Who knows. You may even stumble across a “must have” painting for your home.
