Great to visit if you're into birds. There were some viewing platforms which offer potential sightings of birds, but I preferred using the raised ones just above reed height (I'm quite short). We visited Wednesday 29th July, and although the visitor centre was closed due to COVID restrictions it was a reasonable walk from the town centre. Best to bring lunch and drinks from elsewhere like we did (and take the rubbish back - there's not many bins around).

Good habitat so a variety of birds to see.
Best to concentrate on the middle to Weymouth side as the far side involves a lot of walking with few opportunities for views into the reserve.

This RSPB reserve was a great find. Just 20 minutes walk from the esplanade it is worth a visit. We saw plenty of wild fowl, herons, an egret, a family of buzzards and a marsh harrier on the day we went. Good walks around reserve with viewing points and lots of reed birds you can hear but rarely see. A really good few hours spent just watching nature.

This is a wonderful RSPB reserve. I visited a number of times during September 2013. Good and clearly marked pathways around the site, plenty of places to view & the path threads in and out of the reserve. It is hard to believe that you are so close to a main road and houses. The only bug bear is the lack of basic amenities; there are no toilets & no hides to watch the wildlife from. These are essential for RSPB Reserves.
Lots of good wetland species to be seen, including duck, geese, waders, plovers, gulls & passerines.
A great place, a shame about the lack of facilities.

A wonderful surprise for birdwatching in Weymouth. Went to RSPB Lodmoor for a few hours not sure what to expect from this reserve. Parked at the signposted pay & display car park, take care when driving in, the 2.1m width limit is a bit of a tight squeeze for the bigger cars, a few gave up and reversed out before they lost their wing mirrors! A short walk to a sheltered view point, take the right hand fork as the path splits. Saw a Kingfisher and a small number of Ringed Plover, Redshank, Common Sandpiper,Cormorant, Heron, Egret, Lapwing, Canada Geese and a wonderful display by a Hobby catching and eating Dragonfly on the wing. A gem of a small reserve. Friendly locals and bird watching visitors. Free to enter even for none RSPB members, just walk in.

A very scenic place to relax in a calm, tranquil environment. So close to Weymouth centre yet it feels a million miles away when you are deep into the reserve.

Great to visit, walking paths into the area. Platforms built for birdwatching, relaxing time in the middle of the nature.

This has got to be the most tranquil nature experience in Weymouth. Located opposite the beach easterly end of Weymouth beach, this reserve spans several acres and is visited by an extensive range of birds and wildlife. The water ways and reed beds attract species from across the uk and abroad including marsh harriers, oyster catchers, egrets and herons. A must for any nature lovers. There are gravelled paths and trails for walkers and cyclists to use. Free to access and plenty of benches to rest if needed while walking the pretty trails.

What a stunning place. Took the family and dog and wasn't disappointed with what we saw, including a duck and her little sister ducklings. Best of all it's free.

This is a wetland reserve on the edge of the town. It is very popular with dog walkers so watch your step! There are no facilities such as toilets or a visitor centre, although there are at Radipole RSPB Reserve, nearby. At this time of the year, you can see a variety of waterbirds and wading birds, including such rarities as lesser yellowlegs and Mediterranean gulls. Parking is available nearby.
