As other have said because of the castles structure we can no go in the castle at this point. However it's still worth a visit to see this castle, part of Henry Viii's Kings Device to protect England from French and Spanish invasions. The Tudor inspired gardens are lovely too. The small snack bar did a nice coffee and it was nice to relax outside in such a beautiful area. Free to enter.

We walked along the Rodwell Trail to here. Its beautiful. It has lovely gardens & plenty of places to sit on the grass on a sunny day. It also has some beautiful views.
The Cafe is lovely & reasonably priced.
I did find it a shame that some people were not keeping an eye on their children & were letting their children climb up the sides of the walls of the castle & through bits which have been fenced off.

Perfect place to visit, either with your own picnic or making use of the cabin on site that serves coffees, Ice Creams, light snacks etc. Great outside space for all to enjoy - whether it’s alone with a book, exploring the small castle, letting the children burn off some energy running around or taking the dog for a walk. Beautiful views in all directions. Firm favourite and ‘go to’ especially when the sun comes out

Beautiful area to have a picnic overlooking the sea and with the castle there. You cannot access the castle, unfortunately it is eroding into the sea, but it’s history and ruins are there to be appreciated. Pretty gardens with seats and a little cafe and a toilet. Free to visit, parking along the road.

We stopped here for 15 minutes purely for a photo opportunity. My 9 year old enjoyed the ruins just a shame a few locals seem to think the castle ruins are a local skate park so we found ourselves dodging bikes and scooters. Took the photos we wanted and left. There was a small cafe which seemed popular but was too chilly for us to be sat outside so we headed back to our caravan for lunch instead.

A lovely place to have a coffee in the café and chill out over the views of the bay. Slight down side is the parking is very restricted

We discovered this by accident on a recent trip to Portland and spent a few hours one morning having coffee and cake from the little cafe and enjoying the beautiful views, gardens and castle ruins. Really enjoyed it and will go again if we are in the area.

Small park with cafe, castle ruins interesting but quite small, free though! Grass below gardens was a bit muddy.
