Closed and demolished. This used to be a good pub with good meals but got closed down. It is being replaced with a Care Home ? but is right on a busy roundabout with traffic passing 24 hours a day. Not a good place to have a Care Home?

Used this place a few times, some years back, and found the food to be good and well-priced. We stopped going after the then landlord refused to accept a twenty pound note as he'd heard fakes were in circulation in the area. There was nothing wrong with the note. We were passing today and figured there would be different management, so we'd give it another try. Mr Grumpy had moved on, but it was still a big mistake. The place is run down, with worn and dirty carpets. The table tops are scratched and chipped, possibly because there only seemed to be one beer mat (and no place mats) in the whole pub. I had surf and turf - the steak was cooked just right and was tasty; the scampi was slightly undercooked and a bit soggy, the chips tasted of cooking oil and the peas were like bullets. A pasta dish was just passable, but the accompanying vegetables were rubbery and lacking in flavour. Won't be rushing to try it again. Child's meal wasn't bad.

This hostelry has been demolished within the last week and the site is being developed as a care home

The title says it all. I'm not sure why it has closed down but the last time I went it it was very empty. Hope they do something with the building, it doesn't deserve to sit for months on end.

I have dined at The Victoria on numerous occasions. The Victoria is a very busy 'pub'. Unfortunately the last time I sampled food at the Victoria it was cold 'disappointing' as I had a curry dish. I was offered a 'free' sweet course

Three of us dined, none of us were impressed. The portion sizes were not "pub grub" portions. In a pub like this its fair to expect not great food, its pub food, but a decent amount of it. Small plates don't make the portion any bigger, we kind of realised that trick twenty years ago!!!

The chicken was a sorry pre-frozen and pretty much pre-formed thing, tasteless and bland, but cooked well. Not enough veg or salad, one cherry tomato cut in half in the "side salad". The new bar staff/waiter was floundering and couldn't remember anything and wasn't being supervised or supported. We felt sorry for him.

The Cumberland Sausage was underwhelming. Fried, small and not at all tasty or filling.

The special, Liver was the best anyone of us got. But we all agreed we would not choose to eat there again. Very disappointing. A bit of a joke actually. We eat, we paid. The joke was on us that time. But we eat out about six times a week. So the joke is, we keep going back to places who do good food, and still try new places. Once.
