Been this week, and have a few points firstly, beers were up to £15 a pint! Now i know, craft ales, yarda yarda, but finding the pub more than half empty on a bank hol sat evening, you've got to ask why. Note- this applied to other craft ale pubs in Beverley as well , notably the white horse which seem to have doubled their prices. Couple that to a visit where we were pointed to sit down, like naughty children, until the moment we left, when our table was pounced on with lashings of disinfectant, I felt like a had the black plaque. Perhaps I should have doused my debit card in vinegar as well. Everywhere else in the town did not do this. Personally its not an attraction. Now, I desperately did not want to leave a poor review, after all ,this pub was the main reason to visit the town from 100 miles away but I think something has been lost. Sorry.

Sad to report, that following an enjoyable afternoon around Beverley, we suffered the misfortune to happen upon this dire place. The buffoon serving at the bar, a dishevelled and curmudgeonly older man appeared to take offence at being asked if he served lager by one of our party (not an unusual request on a Bank Holiday evening, in a pub, you would imagine). Throwing a tantrum he immediately declared the bar closed and refused to serve. We left and retired to a much more welcoming establishment not far away. Discussing his rude behaviour the barperson in the next pub said " I've heard that before". As Camra members we advise readers of this sorry tale to avoid experiencing a similar disaster and avoid this shameful behaviour and give this oaf and his establishment a wide berth, especially as there so many excellent and welcoming pubs in the vicinity. We should have noticed, that while most pubs were busy, this pit was almost empty

It really is a pleasure to write the first review of this outstanding pub.
Built from scratch in less than 40 days, a truly biblical achievement.
No Lager, No alchopops, No loud music(except during annual folk festival),
simply the very best locally brewed real ales, hand pulled or bottled, served by
Ian who is a beer fanatic and who was able to give my lovely partner excellent directions to the shops she needed so "buying me a little more time", service doesn't get better than that!
It is now thankfully quite easy to find a decent pint in many pubs but this place is nothing but
superb beers, it is my dream pub made real. Beverly is such a lovely town to visit, it has a real sense of renewal with the hope of success and I am sure Chequers will be a small happy corner here that will last as long as truly great beers are brewed in Yorkshire.

Ian has created something different, I'm not a local and have only visited Chequers a few times since July last year, the welcome by Ian and his staff is always consistent, the beer is great, the local's are great too, its a fun bar.
If your visiting Beverley put Chequers on your bucket list.

Back to being a popular place no doubt but on a negative point this means we have to fight our way through the drinkers to get to the rubbish bins!
Please stop blocking our way

Right in the centre of Beverley in a 60s shopping precinct square is the Chequers, taking over an empty shop. it's tiny, but the bar is big enough, with about six real ales on tap. There's a great atmosphere and during the day drinkers spill out into the square outside. Local pork pies are also on offer. Unmissable!

I had read all about the emergence of micro pubs in the Camra newsletter and happy to learn that one was to open in Beverley.
From the outside this little pub looked your typical micro pub, obviously having been a shop at one time. No TV or jukebox or music playing, not even any Wi-Fi. Just real ale and conversation, as the message on the pubs wall reads "No we don't have Wi-Fi we talk to each other"
There are a decent range of beers, not cheap, but well kept and fresh. Customers and owner were friendly and all in all it was a real friendly pub.
It was a pity I was driving, as I could not sample much, but I will be back next time on the train and will sample much more of their beer!!!

Pub crawl around 10 Beverley pubs and the best pint was Phobos and Deimos by Atom Brewery at Chequers. Great atmosphere and very friendly bar staff and clientele. Look forward to the next time.
