Visited with three children and two adults on a grey day this week. We didn't see much of the grounds apart from the play area (which marvellously is near the start of the gardens, rather than shoved right at the bottom as per Castle Howard). Play area was excellent and covered most age ranges - sandpit, swings, slide, climbing frame,... More

This turned out to be a very interesting visit. We paid for the full visit, including access to the house and walled gardens. The house is still lived in and has a welcoming feeling. The volunteer guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. What is nice about this house is that the history includes relatively recent activities around the First World War.... More

We hadn't been for a while, so took Mum today for a treat after surgery. Mum walks with a stick and the uneven gravelled surfaces were a bit of a trial. Headed first for the cafe, ordered two teas and two cheese on toast. We had finished our tea when 20 minutes after ordering I went to ask where my... More

Sledmere is an attractive village and the site of the House is easy to find with ample car parking. The Garden is extensive and not manicured and therefore it is appealing to those seeking ideas for their own gardens. The Wagoners Museum is small, well set out and full of interest. The Cafe is clean and well set out and... More

We visited this wonderful home on July 22 2016 and were absolutely delighted that we put it on our agenda. The home itself is not one of the largest estates that I have seen while in England, but what it lacks in size it absolutely makes up for in style. The Turkish bath alone is a must see with it's... My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to Sledmere House. We had seen the lovely house on our last visit, so we went round the gardens this time. We noticed that there was a lot more flowers and shrubs in the walled garden than our previous visit. The plants were beautifully laid out, and a feast for the eyes! We had... More

The guide we had for the house was a fount of knowledge, she obviously knew her stuff, but wasn't boring. The rooms we saw were lovely and well cared for. Food in the café was OK but the service was a little slow the day we were there. Enjoyed the stable area and talking to two of the very friendly... More

Be sure to read the website before you go. House closes at 3:30, isn't open on Saturdays and on days other than Thursday and Sunday is guided tour only, all of which might trip you up. We went on Thursday and maybe because there are more guided tours than not, there was zero information about the house and its inhabitants. There... More

We have spent most of the week visiting Gardens and Houses in the East Riding area and only decided to visit this one at the last minute as we were returning home. Now both so glad not to have missed it! The house, although quite austere from the outside is full of fabulous furniture and paintings and if you are... More

Nestled in the stunning woodlands and gentle undulations of East Riding is this magnificent house. Open to the public the house and gardens provide a unique insight into the lives of country gentry. Home to an acclaimed horse stud, the extensive stables tell the story of the prosperity of the family. The grand library overlooking the formal gardens and into... More
