I can only echo all those amazing 5* reviews. My wife is very nervous in the water but Phil’s training has made a huge difference. He calmly explained and reassured her throughout the session. Her skills, knowledge and confidence have grown significantly. Thank you Phil

We hired kayaks and went on a tour with Claire and Ben up the estuary to a lovely village. We saw wildlife and learned so much about the local area, which is just gorgeous and so peaceful. We were safe and the whole experience was well organised. We also took our dog on board. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you

Clair was so informative and gave me so many tips to improve my sup abilities. From the obvious stability stuff to paddle blade angle and loads of tips for the next time i am out on the water.

Just got back from an amazing morning on the SUP tour with Phil. Only my second time out in the boards after a starter session earlier in the week. Phil was a brilliant instructor and guide. (And historian/wildlife spotter) we paddled all the way up to Lerryn through stunning scenery, and no one about! Breath-taking and so much fun. Can’t rate Encounter Cornwall enough for making me feel so at ease on the water and going out with such knowledgeable and friendly guide. Thank you. Hope to be back in the sunshine. :) x

We have hired kayaks from here quite a few times now, but it has now been taken over by Encounter Cornwall. My husband and myself wanted a double kayak to go off exploring and geocache on the river, so I booked online to reserve.
It is all very professional. The kayaks are new and in good condition, the staff are experienced and really friendly and helpful. We also found it very reasonable at £40 for a double kayak for 4.5 hours. We arrived back at our alloted time of 4.30 after spending all afternoon on the river.
This is the best place to hire kayaks etc. and would absolutely recommend it, whether you are experienced or not. They also organise tours if you don't want to explore on your own. It's well worth it. Thank you for a great afternoon - we will absolutely return!

As a family of 4 adults we hired 2 Canadian canoes for the day. The staff were very pleasant & very knowledgeable. We were set up with life jackets, waterproofs, dry bags and maps - told when the high and low tides were and what to watch out for along with recommendations of where to go within the tide pattern. I would say that this set up is ideally placed just a little further up the estuary as you are close to all the pretty bits. You can, of course, still go down to Fowey if you want.
All in all we had a great day out and managed to get all the way up the right hand fork in the river (and even beyond the little bridge), had a picnic, back down and up the left hand fork, up the by water to look for the seal (we didn't see it), up to St. Minnows, back down and up to the ship wrecks. All in all a very good day out. Highly recommended.

Had a great kayak tour (creeks and backwaters) with this lovely company. From the off, received a really warm welcome, and our small group had a friendly vibe. Clair & Ben are fabulous, experienced guides and share their extensive knowledge and enthusiasm in a relaxed way. Beautiful sunshine and scenery, well organised & led, comfortable kayak. Thanks so much for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend.

Whilst staying in Cornwall for our 29th wedding anniversary, we fancied exploring the River Fowey via a kayak tour. We decided to book the "Creeks and Backwaters" guided trip with Encounter Cornwall and are so glad we did. From the moment we arrived, we felt among friends and very warmly welcomed by Julie and our kayak guide Clair. It turned out that only myself and my husband were booked on that particularly afternoon which meant we had our very own personal tour! Clair was a fantastic guide, really friendly, energetic, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We felt in very safe hands! We had a fabulous couple of hours kayaking, chatting and wildlife spotting. It was really relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed it. If we were in the area again we would definitely return. Maybe for our 30th anniversary we will have a go at SUP!!! Thanks again to Clair and all the team for making our afternoon a very memorable one!

Hello, are small dogs able to come in a double kayak?

Hi Fae, it's less about the size, more about if the dog will be happy in the kayak. Some dogs are fine and just sit happily, others want to jump out constantly! We recommend choosing a 'Creeks and Backwaters' trip if you are coming in the summer, as there is likely to be less traffic on the river, than in the harbour.
