Visited Fowey with family I would not book to stay here if you don’t like steep hills. To get in and out of this village you have to climb steep steps and navigate very steep inclines.

The restaurants closed early by 9pm for food even the pubs! Many of the restaurants and takeaways were closed due to COVID so not much choice. The pubs also closed early for drinking not very tourist friendly. There were 2 Michelin starred restaurants in town that were mainly serving fish and also were expensive. I don’t eat fish so my choice was limited.

I would personally not visit again. I stayed in a rental cottage and we were a party of 6 adults including my sons and their girlfriends.

Review starts with a rant….1, Don’t bother trying to park at seafront or “lower town” car parks, too small hard to access, use the main town car park, easy to get to, plenty of parking and easy if steep walk down to the waterfront and town. The Council needs to get the parking ticket machines sorted! First, the ticket machine took money and didn’t produce a ticket or give a refund. Comment was made to a couple of refuse collection officials, who just laughed and said that’s usual, then drove off. OK it’s not their area of expertise, but could maybe have given a telephone number of some one to contact, or indeed shown a little more compassion. Next use the parking app, IF YOU HAVE A SMARTPHONE, (so called). Can’t download the correct app from App Store have to go through Google, you find this out, not by instructions by the ticket machine, but by phoning the alternative payment number, that you can use if you don’t have the app. So app downloaded and process started, tried twice, first attempt resulted in session being terminated, second session stalled at payment and locked my phone. So started again with wife’s phone and eventually succeeded, so nearly 1/2 hour wasted of my visit. Many other people had similar experiences. I can see that some residents may like to see less intrusion from visitors, but if that is the councils wish then just let 100 people a day in and put a sign up saying full, try again tomorrow. If you want people to visit then fix the farce of car parking machines out or make it free. That might just improve visitors state of mind and demeanour to the point that they spend more in local shops and hostelries to support those in the town. If the council in their infinite wisdom have sub contracted parking management to a third party, then a review of the service level agreement is long overdue. As far as Fowey town is concerned, then worth a look, lots of history to see and nice shops etc, if you are in the mood for it after battling the parking fiasco.

Parking was not easy, largely due to the number of people visiting, kids were meant to be back at school and so I thought it might have been easier. It was a good walk down to the town centre and estuary, but scenic, would not be easy for a less able bodied person. The walk back up to the car was hard going due to the steep climb, but definitely worth it. Lovely lovely scenic narrow streets and estuary frontage, highly recommend a couple of hours strolling around here.

Beautiful Cornish village. Such a shame the car park at the top of town was extremely busy, not many spaces, your machine wasn’t taking cash, and the app wouldn’t download and it was taking for ever to get through on the phone, car park full of people standing around on their phones trying to pay! Busy places like this forget the apps/cash just install payment by card machines. They have these in Devon, come on Cornwall catch up!
Wasn’t enjoyable very packed streets, no distancing, no-where to sit and eat a pasty, very disappointed, prefer Polperro for a nice visit! The bus from
The car park packed and blocked up the streets trying to pick people up, all rather chaotic!

Took the new boat on a run down to Fowey for an overnight stay. I have spent many nights on the river over the years and it remains an idyllic stopover. The town can be busy during the day so sitting at a buoy watching the world go by is very relaxing. Mooring fees remain reasonable, however facilities ashore for boating visitors (local yacht club toilets and showers) are presently closed due to Cv19. Local pubs and restaurants are providing a good service despite the present situation. Another nice visit though the "new normal" has dampened the experience somewhat, (no pun intended).

Fowey still retains and authentic bustling atmosphere. The estuary provides a stunning back drop with it's beautiful landscape of green hills and woods dropping down to the water front. Polruan' white painted properties tumbling down the hill side to the sea estuary is a feast for the eyes.

Beautiful riverside old Cornish town full of restaurants and pubs and a variety of small shops.

Motor boats for hire which gives you a chance to view the towns both sides of the estuary from the water.

The day we visited 16th June it was crammed to the gunnels with tourists , everyone queuing to get into pubs and restaurants little to zero social distancing.

The bus to the car park situated up on the hill towering over Fowey was packed every seat used.

COVID forced us to holiday in the UK and we are so happy we did. We spent three days in beautiful Cornwall and Fowey was our favourite place.

The estuary is just stunning with sail boats and cruisers dotted everywhere. Perched high along the water are beautiful Cornish homes no doubt belonging to wealthy city dwellers.

No trip to Cornwall would be complete without an afternoon trip to Fowey. Have lunch at Appleton’s or any of the other fantastic restaurants/pubs then take a boat out and enjoy one of the most beautiful places along the British coast.

I'm sure the place is lovely but finding and getting to a car park is dire.

The main road down to the town is no longer accessible for cars so the first car park you are directed to is at the top of the town but it's a long climb down the hill for anyone who's elderly. The other option is to drive right round to the other side of the town (you'll need a sat nav to find it as you have to weave through the narrow streets).

When we eventually find our way down to the front after driving through housing estates, the cost for parking was extortionate so after 40 mins we didn't bother.

I can't comment on the town which I'm sure is lovely as we didn't manage to visit.
