A visit to the Baltic on foot takes one through some pretty dismal parts of the city. The river bank on which it is located is a scene of desolation. As with the nearby Sage, the paths and car parks give every impression of have...More

The Baltic is free to visit and has 6 storeys. Head up to the 5th floor viewing gallery for great views over the Tyne or to the 4th floor balcony. There is some contemporary art on display but in all honesty rather less than might...More

Lovely building with fabulous views of surrounding area. We are not really into contemporary art but found this place very interesting and informative. Well worth a visit, staff friendly and informative and has a lovely cafe/coffee shop.

Just wandered around here trying to get a feel for the exhibitions. Very contemporary, just what it says it is. The viewing areas were great looking out over Newcastle. Go and see the kittiwakes too. Really enjoyed the building as a whole. Nice shop and...More

If you've not been to see Rodney Graham's exhibition, get down there, it's amazing! Galleries are stunning and staff are very friendly and helpful.

The building is tremendous, as are the views across the Tyne. The VR concept was interesting, but I'm afraid the rest was a vacuous, soulless & disappointing collection of imaginary 'works of art'. Really struggled to grasp the concept here. Or is it just me?

I really liked the building, the views were terrific and the staff were very helpful. The art, however, I really didn't like. It seemed like such a great building could be used for something better.

This is a beautiful place to visit, the art is magnificent. However, the café on the ground floor is not. Possibly the worst ham sandwich and carrot soup I have ever had, and very overpriced. Worth a visit, but take a picnic and have it...More

I am a fan of modern (contemporary) art... but sometimes I have to laugh at the sheer "Emperor's New Clothes" chutzpah of some of the exhibits. The room with the cine projectors was interesting but from an engineering point of view rather than anything conceptual....More
