i found the smokehouse very interesting learning about the history of great yarmouth and the fisher people , how they used to gut the fish and also the potteries and chatting to Ernie who regaled us with tales of the past and showed us some 1,000,000 year old items .... the whole place is made up of timbers from shipwrecks

I cannot recommend this place enough! Me and a colleague supported three of our customers with learning difficulties here and they loved every second! From the wonderful friendly staff to the making of their pots they couldn't have been better. Ernie was an absolute gem to the guys and they loved his company, they walked away with a smile and... We spent a couple of hours here with two children (aged 3 1/2 and 6) and had a great time. There's lots of artefacts (for example a prison door from the middle ages or part of a whales skull) scattered, somewhat at random, around and I think that that works well for children. There's lot of places to look for... More

I had often wondered how the fishing industry worked in this area, and when my wife took me to the Historic smokehouse, I was fascinated by the exhibits, and the excellent information provided by the staff. I had a long conversation with one of the ladies about pottery and how the lovely old building worked and evolved over the years.... More

A place well worth a visit when in Great Yarmouth the staff are very friendly and know a lot about the history of the town set in an original smokehouse in one of the oldest parts of the town. Well worth a visit.

There is one place we keep going back to,. yes the Historic Smokehouses The owners Karen and Ernie Childs are full of information and are very interesting people. Doing pottery, paintings also they hold painting classes upstairs. There is somewhere where you can relax and... More

We walked up to the Tide and Time Museum just as two large coaches pulled up. My wife noticed noticed on the opposite side of the road the Historic Smokehouse and pottery,so we decided to pay a visit thank goodness we did. Though quite small and quaint there is so much packed into it and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend... More

Well..... What an experience. We had such an amazing morning at the potteries. I pre-booked ahead of time to make sure they could squeeze us all in as we attended as part of a hen do. Karen and Ernie kindly closed to all others so it was lovely to have the whole place to ourselves. We had a booked to... More
