We also have a full central heating system with each cabin having its own adjustable radiator. All bedding is provided, as is a hand towel. There are two social spaces aboard, the passenger lounge with comfortable seating large television, DVD player, Bose iphone dock and a large selection of DVD's, books and magazines. The galley has seating for 12 around a large table, a hot water urn for cups of tea, microwave, dishwasher, oven, fridge-freezer & produces hot and plentiful food.We have two compressors capable of pumping 36cft, a booster, a large bank of oxygen and helium and cylinders for hire. Ideal diving live-aboard for Scapa Flow and beyond
May 2021
If you want to dive the remains of the WW1 German fleet in Scapa Flow, Orkney, or dive well beyond, then Hazel and her crew are the obvious choice.

Just spent a week diving from Valhalla (their other dive boat) and would recommend them any time. Well organised, professional, extremely well kitted out and a very comfortable boat. Andy over-fed us of course, but that was largely self-inflicted and very welcome.

Their extensive knowledge of the layout of the wrecks was put to good use to plan our filming and target the shots we were after. The dive lift made things very easy for getting back on board, even with heavy cameras, extra cylinders and the additional weight of Andy's cooking.

Big thank yous to Hazel, Helen, Hannah, Andy and Donald (and the dog x).

AWESOME time at Scapa Flow!
Aug 2020 • Friends
My buddy and I have just left the MV Valkyrie where we enjoyed a weeks diving on the wrecks of the WW1 German High Seas Fleet in Scapa Flow.

What an AMAZING time we had. The wrecks were sublime, and even though we were only diving on 15L cylinders with air all week, we got an awesome perspective of the wrecks and don't feel that we missed out by not diving with nitrox or by having larger cylinders - indeed, the chaps with us diving twin 12s and on nitrox only racked up an extra hour of bottom time over the week.

Our thanks go to Hazel, Helen, Nick, Vasco, Paddy & Jacob for their brilliant hospitality. The diving was well organised, well briefed, and the deck management was excellent. The boat was clean, the beds were comfy, and the food was great! They have also accommodated the additional requirements for Covid19 very well.

Thank you for an AMAZING time.....we'll be back again soon hopefully!

I have dived from Valkyrie many many times over the years and the service and attention to detail never fail to amaze me . This year we had 4 lads over from China and they were blown away by the whole experience. I am sure it won’t be too long before I am on board again

Best UK liveaboard

I've been up to Scapa quite a few times, most recently in April and October of this year. Valkyie (and Valhalla but Valkyrie is my favourite) is a great boat.

Roomy, stable, comfortable and with large cabins - plenty of room for two people and their kit/cameras. Large lounge area separate from the kitchen/dining area. Plenty of room on deck even with stages/scooters. There is even a tumble dryer for damp undersuits and towels - plus central heating/radiators all over the place so if anything it can be too warm if you forget to turn the heater off.

Crew know what they are doing and are highly trained for all eventualities, with the boat carrying serious medical kit for a recreational dive boat. Gas mixes will be pretty much on the button of what you asked for. There is no hassle on the dive deck and safety for dropping off / picking up is paramount.

Finally the food. The standard set by the reputation is high and I have never been disappointed. Hot tasty food and lots of it. Simple buffet breakfast of cereal/eggs/toast. Lunch of soup or something more substantial and a 3-course dinner. The only complaints I have ever heard are people groaning and thinking they are about to die of over-eating.

All in all a great boat and no complaints!

The crew are absolutely incredible, going out their way to make our diving, accommodation and entire time in Orkney amazing. The boat (Valkyrie) is absolutely lovely, and the people REALLY make this charter stand out way above any other <3 An amazingly fun week!

Professional diving with safety and a lot of laughs!

A superb diving adventure with really professional crew. Helen, Hannah and Nick give an excellent diving experience. Safety is paramount, detailed briefings prior to diving are comprehensive. Recovery to the vessel from the sea is quick and efficient with a hot cuppa waiting. Food on board is plentiful and tasty. A stand out memorable diving.

A group of us spent a week on the MV Valkyrie diving the wrecks of Scapa Flow last month. Overall we had a good weeks diving but had some serious reservations about the experience as a whole and won’t be return to dive with this company again.

On the good side of things....
We completed 12 excellent dives. We were put on the wrecks we requested and received adequate dive briefings prior to each dive. Seeing as diving is the reason that we were there it was great that the diving went ahead without and issues. I can’t fault them on that.
I also found the atmosphere on the boat mostly good aswell. We were made to feel welcome on the boat and not treated as imposters at all. This was also appreciated and something that not all skippers/boat crew do so well.

The not so good....
The main issue was the food. Unfortunately I can only describe the theme as “busy working mum can’t be bothered” type cuisine.
Breakfast was disappointing. Cheap bread (that was occasionally mouldy so needed checking!), cheap cereal, instant coffee (unless you had 20 mins free to put the machine on yourself before diving) and eggs that weren’t boiled so needed to be cooked individually.
Lunches were pretty much all Tesco food out the freezer and whacked in the oven. Usually uncooked (anaemic chips, garlic bread with unmelted garlic butter, sausages pink and raw in the middle) and not cooked or served with any pride or care. I’d read good reviews about the food in previous years so was happy to pay the £14/day for breakfast and lunch initially. Until I saw what we were served and I think it is way way overpriced. Has the food gone downhill or did we land on a bad week? I don’t know.
We didn’t get made any cake or puddings at any point during the week which also is at odds with other reports I’d heard. So all in all the food was awful.

The rooms were small and cramped. Which is what I’d expect on a restored fishing trawler. But they were also very damp. And the old worn out bedding made them seem very unappealing.

We all dived on nitrox and for those of us that took our own cylinders, they were never checked to be O2 clean. I know this because a couple of us would need to dismantle our twin sets to show the certificate and we were never asked to. We knew they were safe but the staff didn’t seem to care. And if we’d have been diving with other strangers I’d like to know that everyone’s cylinders were safe. As an oxygen fuelled explosion would affect everyone on the boat!

It’s a shame that the issues listed were present as it tainted a great weeks diving. I can only wonder if a company that has previously won awards, has become complacent?

Dear Susannah, We very disappointed of course to hear that you had a less than satisfactory experience. As safety is paramount on board our vessels we do check cylinder test dates and o2 cleaning as a matter of course. Although I cannot speak for individual experiences we do ensure your safety through our Safety Management System. Food on board is tricky to get right and we apologise if we missed on this occasion. This is not our usual customer experience. In light of this, please contact us for a full refund for your food for the week.

Really enjoyed my charter with the Valkyrie. Food was good, bunks were cozy as one would expect on a boat but clean and the heater worked. Ran into a few issues during my time but Helen/Hazel and the crew knew exactly what to do to fix it. Docks in Stromness Harbor so if you need anything it's a short walk to the shops/pubs/ferry. Definitely need to consider them for any dive trips to Scapa.

My partner and I have been using the Valkyrie for dive trips for 3 years now, visiting Scapa Flow, the Orkney Northern Isles and Shetland.
The diving is fabulous and the boat is impeccable. Spacious, seaworthy, immaculate, comfortable, cosy. Everything is thought of, right down to bottles of drysuit lube.
The cabins are comfortable with proper bunks and bedding and the food is absolutely outstanding. And LOTS of it !!
Hazel is a fabulous skipper and her briefings are detailed beyond belief, and Helen is amazing fun to have onboard as well as her aforementioned cooking.
The crew are professional and friendly and nothing is too much for them
