About
We’ve been crafting our award-winning whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney since 1798. Now, over 220 years later, we are one of the ten oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Age, experience and respect for tradition may define our whisky but it’s Orkney that differentiates it. Something magic happens here and the result is a wild harmony of contrasting flavours found in our single malt. Advanced booking is required.

Had a fantastic time here. The grounds and surroundings are beautiful. We took the top of the line tour and it was well worth the £325 price tag I’d you can believe it.
We were able to sample 6 RARE drams including an 18 year distillery cask strength exclusive and sample from a barrel another 18 year cask strength that will never be released to the general public. The fireplace room where we sampled three 40 year and one 35 year was fantastic. These whiskies sell for thousands of £ per bottle! Our tour guide John was informative and fun. Truly a great guide. Only five people are allowed on the tour so noon EARLY. They are very responsive via email. The two exclusives they sell at the distillery are great. I also decided to buy their 16 year travel exclusive at the airport!

Bucket list item for our visit to Orkney and very pleased to find Highland Park had resumed their site tours on a controlled schedule and by appointment. We had a fantastic tour and as luck would have it fortunate to be able to visit a couple of areas onsite usually off limits to most tours, this was due to an interruption to th production from a minor incident. Worked to our advantage if not best for the operation of the distillery. We had a great lady guide and the tour was very informative. We weren't aware of HP's amasing history and attention to detail in their production processes but the multiple awards are testimony to the formula.
Great onsite shop with a good range of branded products and limited whiskies.
Recommended if this is your sort of thing or if you want to learn about whisky.

We booked our tour the night before as Highland park is one of our favourite whiskeys.

It was a rainy Saturday morning and when we arrived we were promptly greeted and James our tour guide was introduced.
We were absolutely soaked wet through so the wee dram whilst we watched the introduction video was very welcome!

James was a great guide, he’s very knowledgeable and was very interesting. He’s a credit to the team.

We loved the history and the passion that goes into making highland park. It’s so nice to see tradition winning out over convenience.

The tasting session at the end felt like having a chat with an old friend rather than just being on a tour.

We are looking forward to a cosy night to crack open the 18 year old bottle that we purchased from the shop.

We did the wild harmony experience tour and all in all it was a great tour with a few things I can be improved upon.

The tour itself was very nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable and also had a good sense of humour and wasn't afraid to speak up his mind. The whisky tasting itself was also very nice. The tour guide had a lot to tell about the different kinds of whiskey.

However I do not give 5 stars because of 2 reasons.
1. The price is quite high. You can book other tours in Scotland that give the same experience for about £20 pound per person less than the wild harmony experience tour. Also looking at the website the basic honour and pride tour offers less value for money than the average whisky distillery tour.
2. We had a very nice group and having a nice conversation. Therefore the whisky tasting was not really up to speed. Because the tour guide was clearly on a clock to be done after 2 hours we just had to stop and go back (even tough the time was not up when he decided the tour was over). This meant I fairly quickly had to drink the 21 year old. I think that when you ask £75 pound for a tour you should be giving a little more time if the group's organically takes a little more time. If we had a cheaper tour I would have understood it but seeing the price I would have expected a bit more time.

All in all I had a great experience and tasted some excellent whisky, I am just not sure I would fully recommend someone to pay this amount of money for a tour.

Thank you for visiting us and writing a good review of our A Wild Harmony Experience. We're sorry to hear you felt the price was high compared to other distilleries. We try to price our tours in line with our competitors and also taking into account the whiskies offered at our tastings, and try to offer a number of options to suit most budgets. With regards to the time your guide spent at the tasting, we have a fine balance of factors that dictate how long we can guide you through your drams and allow your group to chat together. Due to the high number of visitors we have coming to Orkney and our distillery over the peak season, we try to offer various tours to suit all budgets at a suitable length of time, but must work this around room availability, tour guides and set up time. Of course we want our guests to enjoy each other's company and discuss the whisky tasting in depth, so we will gently and politely try and keep you on course so we can prepare for the next group. Thank you again for your comments, we will note these and take all feedback on board.

As a fan of Highland Park whiskies for close to 30 years I was very excited to be visiting. Sadly though, it was all a bit disappointing and underwhelming. Firstly, we received a very lukewarm welcome and having travelled a long way we expected someone to be happy to see us! Secondly, our guide John (perhaps having an off-day?) didn’t really engage with us and understand that as experienced distillery visitors, we wanted him to share some of his knowledge and expertise. Instead, he gave a basic tour which felt quite scripted and he didn’t seem all that interested. All in all, it was not worth the £120 that we spent on the tour. I will continue to enjoy some of the whisky that comes from this great distillery but please note that there are much better (and cheaper) tours available on the mainland.

We're so sorry to read you didn't enjoy your tour with us. We normally receive very high praise for our tours and John is a particular favourite so we'll look into what happened that day. I do hope you continue to enjoy Highland Park and if you wish to discuss this further please feel free to email us at hello@highlandparkwhisky.com

The tour was well informed by our guide Rupert, but unfortunately the distillery was not operational at this time until September.

I felt the tour price of £30.00 each was extortionate. Maybe £15.00 as I know it includes three tastes of whisky and a glass. If I had known as when I booked I said 2 people and only heard £30.00.

Maybe for that amount we should expect more. I think this should be reviewed. I do take partial blame for not hearing the true amount.
Another well known distillery in Scotland was less than half that price.

Thank you for visiting our distillery and leaving a review. We price our tours competitively based on the time taken to tour the site, 3 whiskies you taste and complimentary glass to take away. I'm sorry you expected more for the money, we try to offer a good selection of whiskies to taste (often high value whiskies or editions that are not readily available to buy) to make the tour quite exclusive. It's unfortunate you visited during our silent season when some parts of the distillery are closed for maintenance but this should have been notified on our website so you were aware. We will of course look into this and hope you continue to enjoy Highland Park whisky.

Highland Park Distillery.

Orkney, What a place! It blew me away.
The scenery, the history and the people.
The highlight of my visit was Highland Park Distillery
and meeting the people who make it work. The staff are warm, friendly and eager to answer all your questions.
I took the tour around the distillery with a small number of other people as all us tourists do, and thoroughly enjoyed every step. As our guide took us through from the malting process to the tasting room, we met various members of staff in different areas of the buildings. Sometimes I was left wondering what job this person or that person does.
It did’nt take long for me to realise that everyone at the Distillery has the same demeanor and perform their tasks with obvious pride because everyone here has the same job

They make Whisky.

A Rainey winters day and all the stone buildings look beautiful and go black. A great shop and tasting experience, it was worth the trip, beautiful whiskey and a memorable day. I tried the 12 and 18 year olds and loved the 18.

Great tour with lovely guide. Despite booking our tour at 4pm on Sunday afternoon we were made welcome and given a tour of the distillery which does things in a traditional way. Our lady guide answered all our questions and we sat for a while learning more about whisky making without feeling under any pressure to purchase any goods. Naturally I left with a bottle !

We did the Honour and Pride Tour on Thursday 7th May and absolutely loved it. Our tour guide was called Keith and he was exceptional. It was so nice being the only two people on the tour with Keith and he explained the distilling process so thoroughly and answered our questions. The whole tour was fascinating and it was my first look inside a Distillery. The tour ended with a visit to the VIP room to nose our drams (we couldn't really drink them as we had requested they be bottled up as I was driving). The VIP room was really something, made all the better by Keith's tips for drinking Whisky and good humour. I recommend this tour whole heartedly - we loved every second of it!
