Great Central Railway cancelled my locomotive driving experience in July and have not responded to several requests for a refund. I am fully supportive of the venture but I cannot condone action that breaks consumer laws. The management needs to act in a responsible manner.

It’s one of those things you’ve got to do once in a while. A lovely picturesque ride through the countryside.

Our three year-old is train mad, so on a dreary Saturday morning we decided to go to the Great Central Railway. We pre-booked our tickets online for a very reasonable £10 each, and we were allocated our own private compartment. On arrival at Quorn station there was plenty of free parking. Every staff member we met was very friendly, chatty and helpful which helped make the day even more enjoyable. They are clearly set up well for social distancing with designated waiting areas depending on your assigned carriage. You then have your own private compartment on the train, and the staff are very good at managing visitors to make sure social distancing happens. The journey was very pleasant, if perhaps a little short because the train doesn’t go as far as Loughborough now. Our son loved it, and also enjoyed the opportunity to climb into one of the other working steam engines which was on display with engineers on hand to chat about it. All in all a very pleasant day - we highly recommend it!

Having visited many heritage railways across the country, we would say this is one of our favourite to visit. Great breakfast at Quorn & Woodhouse cafe. Good drinks in the Tin Shed bar. Steam train ride from Quorn & Woodhouse to Leicester North and back. Train unfortunately didn’t stop at some stations due to current restrictions however, this did not detract from the visit. Good day out for all ages groups!

Took my 11 year old lad for some Class 37 action for us both. Fantastic trip, all coaches set out to keep social distancing. Staff friendly and helpful and great uniforms adding to the vibe. Stations beautifully maintained and like stepping back in time. Trip was amazing with a heron flying alongside our window at the huge lake en route and the fish and chips on the train from George's were the best we've ever had. Friendly at seat refreshments service provided with good options. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be on board next time. Thank you for making a great trip available in these difficult times.
