Couldn't get any better
Aug 2021 • Friends
We came in a group of 8 with 0 fishing experience. Abigail was fantastic with getting everything sorted for the day. We received instruction from the funny and excellent teacher, Russ. Both went above and beyond enduring we all had an amazing experience including catching 3 fish. Cannot recommend highly enough, even for complete novices like us.

A five star fishery - looking forward to returning.
Jun 2021
Unable to fish rivers due to high water levels one of our party Russell suggested we visited this fishery to try their lakes, so after a quick call it was all arranged and we arrived.

There were 5 experienced rods in our party and we were all equally impressed by the complete set up, the cleanliness, bank care, fishing platforms, water quality and facilities were all excellent
In addition the wildlife and the surroundings of this extremely well kept and friendly fishery made our visit a real treat, there is also a well equipped tackle shop with hot tea & coffee.
There is something here for every type for angler form the novice to most experienced. we all caught fish of varying size including some huge ones "that got away" at the end of our session we all agreed we would certainly return not as a case of if but when.
A word of praise and thanks to the management Abbey very accommodating and friendly that added to our enjoyment.

Great location and well organised set up for families to have a great day out
Jun 2021
A beautiful setting and massively helpful team for a first fishing trip. Our young guest was hooked (in all senses!) and the whole family enjoyed a picnic with sunshine on the river bank. A great success and definitely recommended as a family activity. The trout were easy enough to catch to maintain the kids interest which was exactly what we had hoped for.

Excellent half day fish
Jun 2021 • Family
Excellent three hours of fishing with our nine year old. Really helpful staff and would definitely recommend.

We did the float fishing and caught plenty.

There were a number of other ponds wheee fly fishers were catching even bigger fish.

Thanks to Abigail and the team.

Holiday cottage break
May 2021
Stayed during a wet week in the middle of May shortly after lockdown was eased. The property was on three floors with a very functional set of stair gates that made everything safe with dogs, babies and kids. The views from the back of the cottage across the lakes were amazing . the hot tub was the best we have ever had in a holiday cottage, huge, clean and easy to operate. The small private garden overlooked the lakes and felt private.
The kitchen was full of every gadget you could want, but there was no tea, coffee or milk. Bring your own.
The farm animals wandering around mean that dogs need to be strictly on leads at all times. Rabbits, guinea fowl, chickens roaming and clucking about the place much appreciated by the children.
Host was perfect for us, helpful when asked, but not overly attentive.
Would definitely recommend.

Great, great place

The hostess with the mostest is one way of describing Abi, she couldn't do anymore to make out stay as enjoyable as possible, a very attentive host. The accommodation had all you wanted a home from home comfort. The fishery grounds were well looked after and maintained. Although a novice at fly fishing I really enjoyed myself especially when catching. The location of the accommodation also serves as a great base to visit the Moor for great walks or others sites of interest. Would certainly recommend even if you don't fish.

Day’s fishing
Mar 2020 • Solo
Visited here on Friday 13th (ominous!) being my first foray into fly fishing since I visited here on holiday way back in 1998 when a teenager. Clearly this makes me an absolute beginner! I had two on the hook but was sadly outwitted by creatures with a brain smaller than my thumbnail! Both fish put up a hell of a fight so evidently the stock is quality. I was also tainted by a very large golden trout cruising around giving me clumsy attempts at presenting a fly a stiff ignoring.

The fishery owner couldn’t do enough to help me with advice and tips and made me feel extremely welcome which was a real treat. The free pasty at lunchtime was a bonus! This is a Friday “thing” as well apparently so will definitely be back.

The cottages looked really cosy as well, so despite being local, I may look at booking a weekend here...

Cosy Cottage Stay
Feb 2020 • Couples
I have using this fishery for over 25 years although I’ve seen the cottages I’ve never stayed in them before! We arrived on a cold damp winters evening and moved straight into our beautiful cottage Jack’s Den which the owner had made sure was all warm a snug by having the heating on prior to our arrival! The cottages are fantastically equipped and beautifully decorated. The beds are extremely comfortable which meant during our two nights stay we both slept amazingly well. We are both very much looking forward to another stay in the very near future. Thanks Abigail and all at Tavistock Trout Fishery

Waste of time
Dec 2019 • Friends
Spent the day at tavistock fishery today, very disappointed with the venue, fished all 5 lakes for 4 hours without any success at all but at each lake there were dead fish. The lakes didnt seem very well stocked and we both thought the man at reception was extremely rude and abrupt. We wont be returning to the fishery.
