Tavistock is an ancient market town, so you'd expect something worthwhile, but at its best the farmer's market is truly outstanding. The sustainably produced Dartmoor pony meat products alone would make it worth a visit, but you're also likely to find a wide range of fine, artisanal products: meats, veg, beer, cider, spirits and more. There also tend to be craft stalls, useful stalls for bicycle and machinery repair and two or more nursery stalls. Two outstanding ones often present are the Teign Valley Bakery and Devonchilliman's mind-blowing collection of chilli products.

This lovely farmers produce market is worth a visit. Vegetables, meat, fish, bread, cakes, plants and more.
You will also enjoy the pannier market and the excellent high street shops too. We paid £2.50 for a whole days parking.

We had friends down from London, and casting around for something to do we decided on the Farmers Market in Tavistock as Tavi also has the unbeatable cheese shop and the formidable Creedys Deli. It did not disappoint. We came away with two joints of pork from two different farms, some beer fruit cake, tablet fudge, some preserves and of course some cheese from the shop and one of the stalls. Get there early though. The barbque burger stand that we were really looking forward to shut up shop at about 2pm (as did all the other stalls) and we were forced to a local "restaurant". A great day out.

This is a really good little Farmers Market in a lovely town. Can't understand why it is listed under just Devon and not Tavistock itself. We stumbled upon it by accident. Had we been able to find it when we checked out the general Tavistock attractions we have have come sooner and allowed more time. We particularly recommend the meat stalls.

Loved all the homemade produce, crafts. Everyone seemed so friendly and helpful. You wil only find a co-op here which is so refreshing no massive Tescos! I would recommend buying all the local produce and fresh bread and maybe stop for a cream tea.

Good enough to be the sole purpose of your visit to the town, although once you are here you must go to the nearby cheese shop, the Pannier Market and check what's on at the Wharf. We had driven by on several days but not really cottoned on until we stopped off one Saturday just as it was packing up. We checked the enthusiastic website and made sure we knew the form next time. We now regularly buy top quality beef and usually a bag full of other goodies. The prices are not the cheapest (but Morrisons is only half a mile away), the choice and standard are way ahead and the stall holders do not seem to be hard sell, rather informed advisors. They plainly want you to be satisfied and come back. We do. Plymouth had a Farmers' Market until Spring 2012 when it was closed (some of us think frozen out by the poor Pannier Market traders there) but in Tavistock the street Market, well positioned on Bedford Square, is completely accepted and complements the shopping choices and ambience. Can't recommend too highly.

Lovely market just outside the Pannier market. Some great local produce, and although some bits are pricey others are incredibly good value. Fruit and veg gets a bit tired, but the butchers are excellent. Lots of free samples, too!

found a great variety of very good food, particularly the Providence Farm organic meat and eggs, the Pomeroy Rare Breeds pies and the Olive Grove organics stall.
