About
A family run vineyard near Oxford with an onsite winery, producing white, rose, red and sparkling wines, which frequently win medals in Regional, National and International competitions. Brightwell Vineyard was first planted in the late 1980's and acquired by its present owners in 2000. It covers 16 acres and grows 8 varieties of grape including Bacchus, Chardonnay, Huxelrebe, Dornfelder and Pinot Noir. The wines produced are made in the on-site winery employing natural, minimum intervention methods. With our winemaker carefully guiding every process this allows the subtle, distinctive flavours of the different grape varieties to shine through.

Day Trip
Jun 2021 • Couples
We visited this vineyard as part of a day trip with Skills Coaches and what a great time we had
We walked round some of the different vines and then went back to the large marquee and were told about all the different wines they produced and then were given a tasting of a white / rose and red all of which were delicious
All in all a very nice way to spend a couple of hours

Relaxed team day

We visited on a lovely sunny day; we enjoyed the very informative tour and tasting. We were able to use the space for some team building games afterwards, with no pressure on time. Our ploughman's lunch included the most amazing local cheeses! Bought wines, brandy and honey. Definitely recommend a visit for work or leisure.

We arrived to a very enthusiastic welcome despite the rain. Normally a one hour group tour we had Zoe all to ourselves.
A short walk around the vines with comnentary from Zoe. She's super knowledgeable, not only about wine making but the history of it and how it came to be. The facts about the Geology of the land was fascinating.
We then did some wine tasting in the fermenting/crushing/labelling/shop shed (the magic happens in one big room). The dogs Roger Hiro and Charlie were very friendly and added to the warm homely experience. We were very happy with our visit.

A prize winning English Vinyard

We took a tour with wine tasting. The tour takes you down to the banks of the river Thames and is delightful on a sunny day. The wine tasting that followed was very interesting and informative. This family owned vineyard is run with a passion for their craft. Highly recommended.

Great vineyard tasting and tour
Jul 2017 • Friends
Top class tour of this little 16.5 acre English vineyard and a good tasting session, all made extra special by the knowledge and enthusiasm of the highly articulate lady owner. The five wines we tasted were good quality, but what we really learnt was that running a vineyard in the UK is a constant challenge and extremely hard work. Definitely not a job for the faint hearted. Well worth booking a tour, which at only £12.50 per person is a bargain.

He talks at you not to you and he has no people skills. Ive been to better vineyards

I have been to many vineyards all over the world. This one is down the road from me so i wanted to see it. Its in a lovely piece of England by the River Thames, a fantastically beautiful location.
The owner/tourguide knows his stuff but likes to bring a lot of politics into his spiel. He goes on quite a lot and is somewhat self opinionated. He doesnt engage with the group but just opens his mouth and loads of knowledge comes out and maybe you can absorb 10% of it. I guess he doesnt mean to do this. I think all the political jibes were his attempt at humour.
He need firstly to educate people HOW to taste wine, then do the wine tasting and please serve the white wine chilled. Ours wasnt.

All the wine is very dry and tart because we dont get the weather in England to make the type of wine they make in hot countries.
Its a gorgeous location, really special. He is a very lucky man to live there.
We over ran by 45 mins - he didnt apologise for this.
It was however a pleasant afternoon mostly because of the location and the dog.

Ukip fanatics ruin the vibe
Jun 2016 • Couples
A 'vote leave' flag greeted us at the gate which really set the tone. The winery was riddled with UKIP posters and leaflets. The owner/guide used her spurious science to conveniently deny the human impact on climate change.

I found it much harder to enjoy the lovely dogs, wine facts and beautiful setting with the above in mind. This is a real shame because it had the potential to be a really lovely afternoon.

We saw the sign on the main road during a week-end stay in the area and drove up to the house. The lady who owns the vineyard with her husband opened up the sales site for us and we tasted red, white, rose` wines and some English brandy. We purchased bottles of red and rose` that was very acceptable.

Interesting tour and tasting
Aug 2015 • Couples
This vineyard is round the corner from us and I decided to treat my boyfriend to a trip, as we're both wine lovers. The weather was terrible, but we weren't disappointed, the tour was really interesting, the owners know their stuff, and the tasting was great. The dogs ended up being the star of the show, but we also came away with a great bottle of red wine. I'd recommend to anyone who's interested in trying English wine, and the whole trip is great value for money.
