This famous old pub somewhat marred by modern intrusions: television screens and gaming machines.
The inexpensive-looking menu redolent of a Weatherspoon's or other chains. Our Doom Bar served in a barrel glass - always a nice touch - but the beer itself was very average.

Such a pity this beautiful old building is ran by completely incompetent staff. Dirty, food way below standard and grumpy staff. Certainly would not return until Stonegate Pubs are no longer running it into the ground.
The staff at the bar were good, but the food came out completely wrong mash was rock hard, gravy was like water and when complained staff were rude and argumentative, do not recommend this place my 10 year old sister can cook better than this
The pub has always had a lot of character but in recent years has been dark and dirty.
