    Fabulous Museum and Gallery
The museum is located in the town’s library and is a short walk away from Bank Quay station. There is a very diverse range of exhibits. Lots of fossils, birds, fish and other creatures on show. I particularly liked the Woolston Seal who famously swam up the Mersey in the early 20th century. Warrington through the ages is well portrayed from its days as a Roman town through to its reemergence as a new town. There is plenty of information about the local industries - wire production, iron and steel works, leather and tanning and velvet cutting to name just a few. A couple of exhibitions are currently on show. Local born graphic designer Andie Airfix with a wide range of album covers for the likes of Def Leppard and Metallica amongst others. There is also an exhibition called Scribble by illustrator Tony Green. Other notable pieces of art on show were by Luke Fildes and Henry Woods from the Warrington school, sculptures by John Warrington Wood, a portrait of George Formby by Herbert Wilkinson and another portrait of jockey Steve Donoghue by John Barrie. I spent an enjoyable hour or so browsing and admission is free. The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Thank you for your wonderful review! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the Museum

    Well worth a visit
We had been to a concert the previous evening, staying in the local Travelodge, which was, incidentally ok and very good value. We thought we'd have a look round before we went home. We meant to just do a quick tour of this museum but in the end spent several house there. It's a very eclectic selection of artefacts there, but pretty enjoyable. Local history, local geology, local wildlife and local artistry. Whe I think of the number of times I've been to Warrington for work, yet never visted this place, I feel ashamed. It helps that everybody is friendly and willing to pass the time of day with you. Don't do as I have done for the last thirty years, miss the place completely due to prejudice. I had always ranked Warrington with Swindon - a new techno town that had dispensed with its heritage. Not fair (it's not even fair to Swindon, which also has some worthwhile places to visit.
Thanks for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit

Warrington Museum and Art Gallery - A brilliant place that is full of history
What is the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery? The Warrington Museum and Art Gallery is a great place that is full of great stories. It holds a number of temporary exhibitions alongside its permanent galleries that take place throughout the year. The Galleries include Geology, Fossils, Art, Egypt, Ethology, and more. There is lots to see. Exhibitions & Galleries Visited The Geology Gallery The Geology Gallery was fascinating with great artefacts about fossils, stones and the Pre-historic age. The photographs and stones that you could touch were amazing as it widens your imagination. The Time Tunnel Gallery This Gallery gave me nostalgic vibes especially the large toy collection that housed a large variety of items from numerous decades. It was fun and engaging. In addition it was interesting seeing a kitchen from the 1950s as it gave a brilliant insight into how people lived during those times. Art Gallery The Art Gallery was awe-inspiring. It featured a great collection of art that included contemporary pieces too. It brought life and colour. It also made you use your imagination too when looking at the pieces. Warrington Stories Gallery The Warrington Stories Gallery was interesting and informative. It tells the story of Warrington in a beautiful way and the variety of objects on display from the industries that were significant to people. This covered the War, glass making, Egyptology items, and many more. Entry and Admission Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is free so that everyone can have a great day out whatever age and interests you have. Facilities There is no café at this museum but there is a vending machine. There are cafes nearby and at the Warrington Shopping Centre. Toilets are on site. Light ing and Access Most Galleries in the Museum and Art Gallery had decent lighting which enabled me to look at the objects and to take in the information provided. The Time Tunnel Gallery did have dim lighting but I still had a stimulating experience. In relation to access at this Museum then there is a small step in order to enter the building. There are lifts to access all floors of the Museum. Parking Warrington Museum & Art Gallery does not have its own designated car park. There is pay and display parking which is free for those whom have a Blue Badge. If you love to enjoy Art and learn about the history of Warrington in an informative, fun and educational way then the Warrington Museum & Art Gallery does that and more.

It has been a number of years since I visited a museum and art gallery but was glad that I took the time to visit this little gem. The whole layout is great as the exhibition areas all go round in a circle on each floor and ensures that you don't miss anything.

I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of local history that was there and I learned an awful lot about Warrington that I was previously unaware of.

Unfortunately, there were two things that could have improved my visit; namely that the lighting could have been better so that all the narrative and labelling of exhibits could have been read and that there could have been a wider contribution from molder and more established artists. Admittedly, I am not a great lover of 'modern art' but some of the photographic exhibits really didn't seem to meet the categorisation of art as I saw it.

Nevertheless, it was a really enlightening experience and would happily recommend it going on your 'to do' list if you are in the area.

Thanks for your review and I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit. The reason for the low lighting levels in the galleries is that over time light damages artefacts and artworks, so it's always a delicate balance between showing our collection now and preserving it for future generations. We work with artists of all ages and we try our best to maintain a balanced exhibition programme, with a mixture of contemporary and more traditional artforms, so there is generally something for everyone.

I was pleasantly surprised when I came here with my 5 year old son over the summer holidays. There are activities in nearly every room to keep kids engaged and we both found it really interesting. Crafts were also on. I think they do the crafternoons on a Wednesday and Saturday in the summer and we made a beaded jelly fish which was great fun and the staff member was so friendly and helpful. Overall, a brilliant way to spend a good 3 hours and for ÂŁ0

Went on a whim today as we were lacking something to do. Can get an hour's free parking on the street outside... Wish we paid and displayed so we could stay for longer! It was brilliant. Loads of different exhibits and something for everyone. I enjoyed the mummy exhibit, my husband the retro exhibit showing lots of stuff from the 60s, our daughters (2 and 6) loved the dinosaurs.

Absolutely brilliantly thought out in a way that there is something interactive in almost every exhibit so children aren't bored. There are dressing up sections, Lego and dinosaurs to play with, as well as a whole craft room!

The staff were absolutely lovely. Can't wait to come back and spend more time there!

The Warrington Museum is a lot larger than it appears on the outside. I was amazed at the large range of different artefacts that are displayed in the museum ranging from fossils, an Egyptian mummy, shrunken human heads to name just a few! It is free to enter the museum so it is well worth a visit.

As a child we would visit Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and attend the various workshops for children. I remember once seeing a penny farthing bicycle in the display exhibit and feeling a sense of wonder from this small, mysterious, Victorian museum. There are always great exhibits: from The Muppets to characters from the Labyrinth/The works of Brian Froud with good launch parties to go with them.

The Egyptian exhibition is always a wonder to see; look out for the mummified hand - a friend of mine used to have nightmares about it being under her bed!

The shop contains unusual gifts so be sure to go or just sit and have a coffee upstairs.

Quite frankly my favourite place in Warrington!

What a nice open space with plenty of exhibits.

You enter into a Library.
The upper floors are full of very interesting items to see.

There was a class of youngsters on a school trip interacting with some of the exhibits.

Nice and clean.

Very helpful staff, and plenty of them.

Only small but time well spent.
