Great pub.
Oct 2020 • Friends
Dropped into this pub as my twin brother Stephen and I were wandering around this part of town and what a very pleasant time we had.
Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, a light and airy interior, great decor and furnishings, a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, a great pub to chill out in.
We were here on a late Saturday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name and phone number to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands and we were led to a table, we ordered a craft beer each,we both opted to have Shipyard Brewing Co ipa, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back, chilled out and planned out the night ahead while sipping our beers.
My ipa was really good, a rich, well balanced ipa, hints of toffee, a big hit of hops, very easy to drink, a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of.
We both really enjoyed our beers in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and for a first time visit to here we had a great time.
Opening hours are;
Monday, Closed.
Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm till 11pm.
Friday & Saturday, 4pm till 3am.
Sunday, Closed.
New covid 19 hours may differ .
The Dog & Doublet Pub is easy to locate along North Street, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Re-opened with new management
Dec 2019
Glad to see this place back open with new management. Ale choice varies and i enjoyed a few pints of Oakhams Bishops Farewell when last in. 10% discount for CAMRA members is a bonus for me, but they also have a wide choice of draught craft ale, interesting lagers and ciders, plus bottles too. I wish the new team well and hope this stays open as we need more places like this in the town centre. It's open every day except Sundays. It's worth a visit and not just for real ale fan's.

The Dog is back
Nov 2019 • Solo
The Dog & Doublet has reopened under new ownership. Eight cask ales, 10% CAMRA discount for CAMRA card holders on cask ale and a good selection of keg beers too. There's a fresh new sign out the front and the inside has been refurbished. I popped in after work to scope it out and was more than pleasantly surprised. A beautiful pint of Salopian Paper Planes later, a natter with the new team and I will be back. First impressions very good.

Unsafe & dodgy place! Vile Owner.

Avoid at all costs. Myself and 4 people I know had our drinks spiked here. The bouncers seemed very dodgy and the owner himself was overheard numerously saying the C word and talking about showing girls in the bar photos of his member/offering to take them home. Bragging about all his businesses and money how much he can get away with because “everyone knows of him” “everyone’s got his back”. Won’t be going back.

When this place opened it was a breath of fresh air.how things have changed!!!.I understand that it's allegedly up for sale, and the civic hall being closed has destroyed it's trade, but last night,no beer!,staff trying to rip people off with drink prices, one double gin,one single gin with tonics £21!!.it was basically think of a number and at least double it.then tried to charge £3 to get in.put it to sleep now.

Great pub a real gem.

I was visiting the area just for a day and was wandering around looking for a quiet place off the beat and track. Came across this place, great choice. Superb music being played in there, has sky sports on as well, reasonable priced and a good variety of drinks to suit all tastes. Highly recommended.

Nice evening

Very nice city pub I have only just discovered however would only recommend it for quiet drinks early to midweek. Bit too rowdy at the weekend for me at the weekends! A lovely lady behind the bar, and very friendly clientele. Worth a midweek visit.

Good night on Saturday
Mar 2018 • Friends
Friend took me here on Saturday night. £3 entry on the door was fair enough, given the promise of DJs and music. Can confirm the aforementioned smell is definitely of a toilet/sewerage nature....but after a few hours that is overcome by the smell of body odour and spilt beer.. That aside the DJs played a great mix of classic tunes from Indie, Ska, 70s, reggae and pop. Good mix of people but tainted a little by drunk blokes trying to hit on ladies who didn't ask for the attention. The drinks were well priced (£3.60 for a Guinness, as a southerner I'm used to paying £4.50+ for the same). The gents toilet was quaint but the floor was swimming in a river of p*ss towards the end of the night. The cocktail garden was closed due to refurbishment.
Overall though a very good night.

fair beer, pleasant staff, reasonable layout...why the poor rating ?..as soon as i walked in last saturday feb 10th i was hit by a foul stench..not sure what it was but sweet jesus it was foul..i mentioned it to the staff who looked bemused ( i reason it's like incontinence, the longer you live with it the less you notice it ) if it sorted the stink out it would be a better place to visit.
