We booked an evening cruise on the canal boat Comet, 5pm till 9pm, for my daughters birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Nick the skipper was great sharing stories from the canal and even let us ‘drive’ the boat !
We stopped over for a drink at the Pig Place and then slowly cruised back to Twyford. The boat was clean and comfort for a party of 6 adults with toilet and facilities on board.
We had music and lots of laughs! We brought our own picnic and enjoyed the experience, well recommended! Another family memory made! Thanks again !

Hiring a longboat has been on the bucket list for a long time. We had the best day cruising down the canal and working the vintage locks with each one being so unique. Had a chat to local longboat owners as we met up at the locks. We stopped off at the Great Western Arms at Ahyno for a roast which was beautiful. The slower we went the more fun we had. Cannot speak more highly of Mick who ran us through how the houseboat and locks work. Great boat and magic location. Next trip will be a multi day hire so we can really chill! A living history of the UK.

We hired The Chieftain for a week from 1st August 2020,Chieftain is the best hire narrow boat we have had. Well equipped boat ,comfortable beds, easily accommodated myself my husband, our son and daughter in law and two grandchildren. Both grandchildren, aged 11 and 13 years of age, enjoyed navigating the Oxford Canal, and working the locks, and and mooring the Chieftain.
The Chieftain was exceptionally clean, and all bio security measures were in place..
Colin was very helpful, and on returning,we were met by a very pleasant lady and gentleman who were there to meet us on our return.

Such an incredibly fun day on the canal boat. Mick helped get us situated and was definitely very knowledgeable about the boat and the canals. It was a great time operating the locks and navigating through the canal. Enjoyed all of the beautiful scenery. The boat itself was comfortable and clean. If I could give my experience an additional star, I would.

We spent a week on Conqueror in mid-August as a family of 5 (children aged 4 to 12), our first canal holiday. Mick provided a comprehensive briefing and took us through the first lock, which turned out to be less complicated than it sounded on paper. The older children had great fun given responsibility in operating the locks. Days on the canal were scenic and slow paced; we got as far as Napton taking things very easy, eating at a couple of good pubs along the way. The boat itself was well equipped and comfortable too, and communication from the owners was very good. Overall, an excellent holiday.

My wife and I booked Twyford Wharf narrow boats last year because it was a small family run business.
The hand over from Colin was informative and clear covering all aspects of the boat and its safety features. Because it had been over 15 years since we were on a narrow boat, Colin asked if we were still familiar with the handling of the boat and the use of locks which we found reassuring.
The boat was well equipped and had everything six people would probably need; it was clean, and all the essentials were catered for to start your journey.
Our 14-day narrow boat itinerary was to visit Oxford first and wend our way up to Warwick and the castle taking in Blenheim Palace, Banbury and to stop off at canal side villages and pubs along the way.
Sadly, due to the COVID 19 Coronavirus out break and the Governments restrictions our itinerary drastically changed and because the Manx Government were closing their borders we had to cut our holiday short to get home and so returned the boat to Twyford Wharf.
Although it was our decision to cut our holiday short Colin and Louise offered us a credit for our second week to be taken when the current COVID 19 situation has abated, which we found extremely kind as it wasn’t their fault.
Thanks to you both and we’re looking forward to meeting you again hopefully soon.

Dear both - we are grateful for your kind review and sincerely hope that you can return for a week in the future. Trust that you are not finding the 15 day isolation too taxing? It was a pleasure meeting you and we thank you for your kind understanding and look forward to seeing once again.
Kind regards - Colin & Louise

Five gold star recommendation. We had a wonderful weekend on Comet. The boat is easy to handle and really well-maintained and equipped, down to thoughtful touches like a spare waterproof jacket and umbrella. Colin was incredibly helpful, and the whole hire felt very Covid-safe, for which we were very grateful. The hire was easy to organise, and I can't speak highly enough about the boat itself or the company.

During COVID restrictions, my husband and I discovered documentaries on narrow boats. He was enchanted; I was interested but uncertain that we could ever successfully handle our own boat (I'm 78; he's 79 but in fairly good shape. Still...) We were planniing a seventeen day tour of Wales and the Cotswolds, ending in Oxford and I found the Twyford Wharf Narrow Boats. Perfect! Colin advised us to take the short train ride to King's Sutton (easy to do), where he met us and transported us to the Comet. The Comet is a small, unassumiing narrow boat and just right for two novice apprentices. We navigated to The Great Western Arms restaurant for lunch (excellent, charming!) and back . The trip took from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Our captain was Rick, accompanied by his dog Dixie, who came along at our request. Rick asked if she could come, and we enjoyed her company. Rick is an experienced narrow boat owner. He explained procedures carefully and thoroughly, patiently encouraging and praising our efforts. He was cheerful (despite the rain) and friendly, sharing past experiences. He was totally familiar with locations and people along the route. He encouraged us to take the tiller, work locks, and experience all that we would need to be successful narrow boaters. It was a wet English day, but we gained the confidence we needed and enjoyed it immensely! We felt as though we had made a friend in Rick and would be glad to have the opportunity to spend time with him again. He offered to give us a refresher course if we were to return, and waited with us until the taxi came to return us to the train station. We had a great day!

We had a fantastic time and wanted to thank the team for the preparation and instruction. The wife particularly enjoyed the tea and coffee and level of equipment inside. I didn’t see much of the inside as I was enjoying being skipper for the day. The natty blue lighting was a particular highlight, and Glennys said the heating kept her lovely and warm. The phone charger socket proved useful as well.
The boat was really well equipped, very clean and quite easy to manage once I had got my hand in.
The distance for our day trip was just right with a visit to the great western in Aynho a top recommendation.
We hope to be back in the summer for another trip. Overall, totally recommended.

We had a wonderful day on the canal. Colin made everything super easy from start to finish. And the website had a great recommendation for lunch! The boat itself was really well equipped with enough space for eight people and two dogs to move around comfortably. Would definitely recommend.
