Decided to take advantage of the British Summer Time, and take a hike out to the Blinking Owl in the mizzle. The Website said it was open. Walked 4 miles and they weren’t open, on a Saturday lunchtime. This is contrary to their stated opening hours.

I squinted through the quintisentially olde worlde English country pub windows to see what looked a well stocked bar, full of thirst quenching beverages and a wide selection of bar snacks, and comfy seating. I can only imagine the landlord is a jovial raconteur, and the barmaids are both buxom, attentive and beautiful.

I’m not the only person to find them closed, Clearly providing a not-very -reliable service. Not very good for the only pub in the village, not great for me because I had clearly earned a pint.

Hiked a few more miles across country to go to the Roebuck in Drayton, which is newly reopened. Had a great lunch of squid and a few pints. Go to the Roebuck instead.

Stayed here for one night. Very warm welcome from Dave and Sylvia. Enjoyed a drink and snack in the beautiful garden before setting out on a circular walk from the pub. Ate in the lovely cosy bar in the evening. The food was very good. Afterwards chatted with some friendly locals. The room was nice and we had a comfortable night. Breakfast was good. This is a lovely area and the pub has loads of character - I can't praise it enough. We will be returning!

The Blinking Owl is a traditional English pub, Dave the landlord always welcomes visitors in his own inimitable way. The pub dates back to 1645 and if its a classic pub you are looking for; look no further. Don't expect loud music, TV or pokey machines, you won't find them here. One tip bring cash as there are no card facilities.

We've recently moved into the village and one of the first priorities was to visit our local pub, The Blinkin' Owl. We were given a warm welcome from Dave (the Landlord) and the lovely Sylvia. We have eaten there quite a few times now, Friday & Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch. Last Friday we were part of a group of 8 friends, 3 of whom ordered steak. They requested rare, medium rare and well done. All 3 friends said their steaks were delicious and cooked just as they liked it! We also pre-booked for Sunday lunch and 12 of us enjoyed good food and a relaxed afternoon. There was no hurrying us to the table nor encouraging us to leave so they could lock up. It's a small kitchen with Sylvia in charge. If you want fine dining this is not the place for you but if you want good food in a dog friendly, traditional pub, then try it. We love it and will continue to take ourselves and our friends there.

Daventry Ramblers had lunch here last Saturday . We were a party of 15 , we were made most welcome . The pub has a fine ambiance with two log fires and traditional
décor . We all enjoyed a delicious lunch at sensible prices . We shall return .

Visited the Blinking Owl over the New Year whilst staying in the village. We found this traditional pub extremely welcoming and full of history and character. Thank you Sylvia for the delicious meal and enjoyed our chats Dave you made us very welcome and warm with such lovely open fires on the cold evenings. We also enjoyed the quiz and our team mates on New Year's Eve. We will return again hopefully sometime this year and will count how many owls are in the pub this time.

We wish you and your regulars a Happy and Healthy 2014

What's the point of a pub that never seems to be open dispite claiming they are open. Been here 3 times now and each time it's claiming to be open its shut so won't bother again, why have a pub and not be trueful with its opening hours. They obviously don't need the income and one would question just how often they sell beer and how fresh it is considering how infrequently they are open. Would think the best idea is convert it to a B&B or sell up to someone who actually wants to run a pub that opens

Stopped off during a walk on a cold sunday afternoon. Huge fire in the grate, friendly, chatty welcome from the landlord, good beer and some conversation with other customers. Only had a sandwich and some crisps as we were eating later. The sandwich was ok but the pub was excellent. Would happily go back and certainly recommend it to others.
