Many castles were built along the Wales-England border in the turbulent centuries after the Norman conquest. Hay Castle is one of very few which has never been left unoccupied since the late 11th century. The first wood-and-earthcastle was built in Hay during the Norman conquest...More

Visiting this castle I was so disappointed to find it was shut and completely covered with scaffolding but pleased to note that it was been repaired and will soon be reopened and as beautiful as ever

Slightly disappointed that we were unable to access the castle due to renovation. I am sure that a future trip will be in order. Hope the renovation goes well. Doug

The castle is closed for restoration until 2020. There is not much to see as the castle is covered in scaffolding and shrouded in plastic. The honesty bookshop under the castle terrace is still open.

Ruins of a early 13th century castle that can be viewed from outside. Guided tours are offered. Lovely town with a castle, its worth a visit.

What a beautiful castle it once was, now sadly this is derelict. Awaiting lottery funding to rebuild. It will look amazing once done - and we will defo come back for another visit. Lovely little honesty book sale in the grounds.
