    Well worth a pop in
Well worth a pop into cathedral or rather the attached church of Scotland. Cathedral I think historic scotland care with scaffolding all around. Church well maintained by donations. Small interesting museum and a resting place for the despised wolf of badenoch someone never to be forgiven for his raising down of elgin cathedral. At the start of the woodland trail to the house hotel by the river near centre of town

Worth a visit (make a donation)
The parts that have been restored are amazing. So much history. Unfortunately I couldn't stop giggling at the Duke of Atholl connection (Watch Made of Honor. The clip is at around 1:30). Parts of the building are in disrepair and dangerous, so there's a lot of scaffolding. The grounds right along the River Tay are beautiful, with a great view of the Dunkeld bridge.

    Cathedral at Dunkeld
One of the majestic cathedrals in Scotland - well maintained and tidy. Surrounded by soothing greens and has a beautiful river (River Tay) flowing close by. Recommended for a relaxing afternoon with friends and family.

Fortress of the Caledonians - beautiful old church
This church is beautiful and ancient 700 years old with megalithic stones inside. Dunkeld - literally means Fortress of the Caledonians. I loved being in this church and reliving history. They had a gigantic church organ that was an awesome sight.

A lovely working church alongside the stunning River Tay. There had been a wedding earlier that afternoon, so we were lucky enough to get a fleeting view of the bride and groom and their guests in all their finery.

Inside is very pretty, despite its many reincarnations over the years. We had been forewarned (by a very friendly man who told us he helps maintain the monument) that inside two ladies were practicing some music, so could we respectfully lower our voices inside. This we did, and were treated to a lovely violin performance with a piano accompaniment during our visit. The Chapter House museum accessed inside the cathedral to the side is extremely interesting, giving a feel for the church and its importance in Scotland and the neighbourhood over the centuries.

The grounds are well maintained, and there appears to be access to walks in the surrounding areas from the churchyard.

The gates to this Cathedral are amazing - not original to their current position but very ornate. My husband went into the actual building and I stayed outside the perimeter with our two dogs. It’s a shame dogs aren’t allowed into the surrounding graveyard/on the pathway so I could of got a bit closer, but it’s on a lovely walk by the river.

Lovely quiet place just a pity that some people don't give the place respect. It does say guide dogs only but regardless you have owners with dogs off leads and running around. I am a dog lover but come on you have miles of riverside walks for that right next to it.

The gates were locked and we learned from locals that it was too dangerous to walk round the cathedral. This was disappointing but clearly the building was falling into disrepair and needing a lot of money to fettle it. It’s a beautiful building in a lovely little township.

Atmospheric & truly historic. Limited access because the skeletal remains are currently fenced off awaiting the outcome of safety surveys. So many stories of historic interest to any visitor visiting the cathedral. Beautifully maintained. We'll cared for building & grounds stretching down to the river where there is the best view of Telford's Bridge.

Dunkeld and its Cathedral were under the care and management of our Duncan ancestors so it was a mist visit and holds the oldest grave in our clan going back some 1600 years! It's a quaint village and a short walk from the parking areas around the grounds. There is also a very pleasant and peaceful area to sit outside and have a picnic. A few nice shops to visit too!

The internet said the Cathedral was closed but we visited as we were in the area. The Cathedral was fenced off so you cannot get too close but can get a good view of the exterior. Part of the building is a ruin with scaffolding in place. The grounds are interesting with a 250 year old birch tree that can be seen from a path at the rear of the building. There is also a nice walk along the Tay river bank.

Cathedral is under renovation but is still an attractive building / walk.

Free to enter, benches nearby where you can have lunch.

I learnt all about the battle of Dunkeld,

The Battle of Dunkeld was fought between Jacobite clans supporting the deposed king James VII of Scotland and a regiment of covenanters supporting William of Orange, King of Scotland, in the streets around Dunkeld Cathedral, Dunkeld, Scotland, on 21 August 1689 and formed part of the Jacobite rising of 1689, commonly called Dundee's rising in Scotland.
