This was a birthday treat I booked. The afternoon tea was delicious and filling with a nice assortment. The ambiance was wonderful with the piano player offering a peaceful melody of eclectic music. The staff were friendly and met all our needs without being intrusive. The view of the sea was lovely and the whole experience was a joy. Thank you :)

It was lovely to see parts of the hotel that the public don't usually see. It was also nice to shown around the apartments which are beautiful. It was nice to learn about the history of the hotel and the rivalry between the Grand and the Metropole Hotel.

I have always wanted to do the Grand tour and have tea in the Palm Court. I was so disappointed. This poor old building has seen better days and the awful 70's alterations and patterned carpets are hideous. The lady who took us around on the tour was great, she was very well informed and obviously passionate about the Grand. She spoke for 2 hours without a break and made the whole experience very interesting. However, when we went to have our tea we were all sat together ( there were 8 of us on the tour) instead of us being able to enjoy the experience with our partners. A very large old, stained plastic tea pot/ jug was put on the table and the lady beside me said "hardly tea at the Grand is it?" The scone was nice enough but there was not even enough tea for us all to have a second cup. The Palm Court has a lovely view and is probably a lovely place to have tea if you sat by the window and were not squashed into a corner with strangers. They really need to get rid of all the tired old plants though, I love plants but these have seen better days, just like the Grand really!

I recently booked one of the tours held on Monday and Friday afternoons (booking required). It was very interesting and the lady taking us round was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The cream tea afterwards was very good with one large fruit scone, jam and plenty of cream, plus tea or coffee. The only thing I would bring to the attention of anyone thinking of going is that you are advised to allow two hours for the tour, which I presumed was including time for tea, but the tour itself took over two hours. All in all, an enjoyable November afternoon, and I will recommend to my friends.
