As a southerner relocated to Yorkshire Atkinson Grimshaw always seems the quintessential artist of the region; even now you can have a Grimshaw moment on a rainy twilight, the wet reflecting the streetlamps or moonlight, and lights shining from Victorian era shopfronts or houses. This gallery has two really tasty moonlit ones, plus two lesser ones: a view of Liverpool... More

I am new to Huddersfield and was really happy to discover the art gallery above the library. The building is beautiful but the main entrance ceiling is very damp and damaged and the public toilet I used was a bit grim. However, I was hugely impressed with the permanent collection and the temporary exhibition. It is very large and is... More

It was a great installation showcasing artists at work. The display looked like a table where artists were in various stages of production. The exhibits of local artists was nice. Lift access to the top floor above the library and pleasant staff.

Like many people who live locally I rarely go up to the second floor above the library (lift available) to spend time in the gallery but whenever I do I am very impressed. The Kirklees collection of paintings and a few sculptures is varied and interesting and there are always changing exhibitions too, eg. photos, prints, conceptual art. The layout... More

A mini gallery in the heart of Huddersfield town centre. Avoid the run down stinking toilets in the Library. Kirklees Council could do with spending a few pounds on this and it will be well worth it. Don't think this will happen because Kirklees like to waste money.

Intriguing paintings especially early 20th century ones, with interesting biographical information. I was impressed by the collection.

This is a good place to go and much, much better than I expected. The impressive staircase, the carefully presented artworks, the helpful and clear information boards, the good stuff for sale by local artists... excellent. The only reason I have given it a 4 star rating and not 5 is that one of the galleries was closed on the... More

Let's just put this place into context this is an Art Deco building which is worth a visit on its own. On a good day you can play chess outside. The building holds a huge library and reading room. The art is speed all around the building . Lots about the Luddites who destroyed the first looms in the industrial... More
