A lovely day out in some marvellous scenery, run almost completely by volunteers it's a real step back into the past, there are some beautiful little country stations where you can just sit and enjoy the peace until the next train arrives

Been here several times over the past few years, I always thought this would be the best line, as it being the longest standard gauge line in the U.K, sadly it doesn't do a lot for me, there are some smaller lines that have more to offer to me but it is a good line and I'm not taking anything... The West Somerset Railway trip from Bishop's Lydeard to Minehead is a lovely trip bringing back many memories of travel in the past for many. The route traverses 20 + mile of countryside. On the day we went very few of the carriages windows had been cleaned on the outside which meant that little of the countryside could be enjoyed. Otherwise... More

On holiday in Somerset, drove to Watchet, parked up and a steam train arrived at the station. Got the next train to Minehead. We have not been on a steam train for 25 years and we really enjoyed the return trip. The carriages were clean and the staff on the train were friendly. Would like to have done the complete... More

This old steam train is beautiful and sitting on it chugging through the Somerset countryside was lovely. I took my mother as a bit of a treat, but I think next time I would prefer not to go at Christmas time and just enjoy the ride and the view. The train was quite untidy by the time we got there... This was very expensive for what it was. Within moments of setting off, mince pies, a thimbleful of sherry and a sweet for the children arrived, swiftly followed by a decidedly uncheery Father Christmas. The magician did a couple of tricks which briefly entertained older children during the 90 minute ride. There was no atmosphere and I would not do... More

A family party of 16, including 3 children aged 2 and 3, boarded the last Santa Express on Christmas Eve. Everyone was tremendously excited and all had a wonderful time. Father Christmas gave generous and appropriate gifts but the star of the show ( apart from the steam train) was the wonderful magician. Our 3 year old grandson was mesmerised... More

Enjoyed our first visit to this heritage railway for their Winter Gala. There were 4 steam locos running over the two days running hourly services along the line Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. This is the longest heritage line in England through a mix of countryside.
