This really is the best attraction in Minehead. The station is small and is designed to capture the sense of rail travel from the 1940/50's with bunting, vintage advertisements and attendants dressed to impress. The station is small but perfectly formed and can still accommodate droves of people. The station buildings have quite an age to them and the steam... More

A well run railway at 20 miles the longest preserved railway in England and Wales, but why oh why do they not take the next step forward and run trains to the revamped Taunton Station. The signalling and the track are already there from Bishops Lydeard. Come on West Somerset Railway you could link up with the chambers of commerce... More

Caught the train at Bishops Lydeard and rode to the end of the line at Minehead. Fabulous journey of just over one hour. Bought a very good information leaflet for 50p before setting off and it was a fund of interesting nuggets about both the line and what can be seen from the train. Plenty of time at Minehead if... We actually bought "Freedom of the line" family tickets which gave us unlimited travel for one week (£60 for the family) which made it much more affordable. Lots to see and do along the line but the train itself is the best bit. We always try to sit near the dining car.

3 generations of family each enjoyed their day. Some completing the return journey, some stopping off on the way. A whole day or a short trip whatever the weather is worth doing. Beautifully maintained stations and rolling stock, friendly staff and volunteers, refreshments and gift shops can all be found along the line and each station is well placed to... More

What a great day out. Really enjoyed our ride from Minehead to the end of the line and back. We stopped at Watchet, lots to do there , and a nice little quay. There is lots of other stops, but to be honest there didn't seem much to do apart from Dunster, but that was too much of a walk... More

Visited the west Somerset railway as a couple but this is equally good for all the family. Left from bishops lydeard station with a day ticket. Plenty of seats on the train that passes through some great scenery and picturesque stations. Would recommend a stop at watchet for a wonder around, the small town has been tidied up and is... More

Having traveled on most preserved railways in the UK, this is one I've not been on before. We arrived at Bishops Lydeard in plenty of time for the first train and it was already busy. All the staff were very friendly & helpful. The ticket inspector came through and asked everyone where they were going, giving advice on walks/things to... More

Have travelled this route several times and never tire of the view. The ticket allows you to stop off and explore places along the way so with some careful planning you can usually get an hour to look around before onward to the next stop. Will admit it's not a cheap day out but would recommend it as a must... More
