As an avid Downton Abbey fan, I confess I was somewhat disappointed. And I say this so that other fans, who live abroad or can't get tickets, don't feel so left out. The rooms are not nearly as grand or opulent as they appear on television. In fact, much of the house looks as if major repairs are in order.... More

I read a lot about this tour before we went, and was prepared for a letdown. However, I was not disappointed. We arrived about 9:40 am on a somewhat rainy day, tickets in hand. We spent the first hour roaming the gardens, which are beautiful. We then got in line to enter (tickets give you access for a half day).... More

If you are a fan of Downton Abbey, don't even read this, just go. If you are not a fan, you still need to see this beautiful estate. As you walk through the rooms and the corridors, you feel you are at home, as you have seen it on the show so many times. Outside, the grounds are stunning and... More

My fiance surprised me with a visit to Highclere castle. Wow, it's beautiful, especially as you drive towards it, it's magestic. We didn't have tickets, but arrived early by 10am to get in the queue, which wasn't too long. You cannot take photos inside the castle, but the room guides were very informative into the history of the castle and... More

Definitely worth a visit for ANY fan of Downton Abbey. The castle and grounds are immaculate, Every room in the house is just exquisite!! The gardens and ground are perfectly manicured and we could of spent hours just walking around them! The artwork inside the house rivals Buckingham Palace and is in great condition considering it's age. The staff are... More

Just back from a really lovely day at Highclere, we were lucky to have a perfect sun filled day to enjoy the gardens as well as the house. A real treat to look around the family home where Downton Abbey is set, great fun spotting things you recognise. Staff in the rooms are very friendly and knowledgeable and it's lovely... More

Having watched Downton Abby throughout it's run, I throughly enjoyed everything. We saw the downstairs formal rooms and several of the bedrooms. There were photos of the TV show scenes in each of the rooms where they took place. It was a lovely home and the grounds are gorgeous.

I wanted to visit here having watched Downton Abbey for the past few years and I was not disappointed. We booked tickets and afternoon tea in advance. The castle is set in beautiful gardens and it's a pleasure to walk round and not too big as can be the case with some stately homes. The house is really interesting even... More

Went on a coach trip to Highclere Castle. Found the volunteer assistants very knowledgeable and patient. Stunning house in superb setting. It was nice to see the film set photos in the rooms to remind you of the Downton scenes that took place there. No photos allowed inside which was a shame but understandable. Very interesting Egyptian exhibition. Not really... More

Booked online for afternoon slot. Arrived early to enjoy lunch. Lovely tearoom, efficient staff, small but adequate menu. Plenty of seating outside, extra seating by marquee. Made to feel welcome into the house. Photographs of scenes from Downton helped to jog memories of the series. Felt nice to know that a family still enjoyed living here. Clever filming made the...
