BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

The climb up the castle from Marine Drive looks somewhat daunting, but taken slowly it is not as bad as it looks. The views from various points on the ascent are wonderful, and those from the castle ramparts are stunning. the castle has an interesting history and the little museum explains it well. there is a tea room at the... A great place to visit. Near the shops and the restaurant and the beachs. Nice walk to there. You can walk round most of the castle. The walk inside is a lovely walk round. You can see round Scarborough bay.

An enjoyable way to have history come to life with an audio guide and swords playing session for the children. Still quite a bit to see, worth a visit

We went on a really cold day but it was a nice experience. The staff were lovely and there is a really interesting display on how Scarborough was bombed in the First World War. Quite a walk up there but you pass Anne Bronte's grave just before you go in. Amazing views -a must if you have a dog.

This is a fascinating place that is well worth a visit. However there are a couple of issues to think about. First off, it's deliberately inaccessible as part of its defences. The nearest we could get in the car was the car park at St Mary's church just below the gateway (£2 for 2 hours - make sure you have... More

Hello neddyb1 Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. The natural defences of the headland does mean there is a steep incline to reach the top (something which takes little time to summit). I do not agree that access to the castle is still inaccessible with the road surface and causeway being a easy surface to tackle.... More

The views are stunning and the walk around is educational, with the option of having a recorder and earphones to listen to what happened in and around the castle. The plaques are numbered and you punch the number in the device for an insight into its history. Great facilities for eating and reasonable prices.

Being a member of English heritage we like to visit castles wherever we go I have to admit this although has a beautiful view wasn't as good as thought, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with limited mobility as it's a very steep walk up a winding path (the castle in at the top if the cliff) there is a...
